PDF Page Numbers stamps sequential numbers onto a PDF in your browser. Pick a corner, a start number, and a format. Files never leave this device. The stamp is real text, not a flattened image. There is no account gate and no generation meter. That is the product constraint for the whole free-tools shelf: Canvas, the File API, or arithmetic on the visitor's machine. A "paginator" that quietly called a layout model would be a generate wearing a utility label.
Versely has no free tier for generation. Every model call costs credits. Browser utilities sidestep that because they cost nothing to run. Use this tool when the job is "put 3 / 12 on the page." Do not prompt a video or image model to "draw page numbers on this PDF."
The stamp is real text on your machine
The file you choose is read into memory locally, numbered there, and offered back as a download named …-numbered.pdf. Network off, it still works. That is also why it is actually free: no hardware of ours is in the loop. What it costs is the other book — credit formulas for per-second video, per-character voice, per-megapixel stills, caption burns, editor exports. PDF Page Numbers is not in that book. If a job is in that book, it is not this tool.
Caps are for your tab, not a server: PDFs up to 150 MB and 500 pages. Rendering allocates on the order of 25 MB per page at export resolution, which is what the page cap protects. Thumbnails show the first 60 pages; the stamp still runs on the whole document. Do not screenshot pages into a video generator and ask for a "numbered version." You will spend a clip rate to invent a visualisation of a proof. You will get a generate, not selectable footer text.
Rotation, Helvetica, and the format tokens
Default format is {page} / {pages}. {page} and {n} are the current number after "start at." {pages} is the last number in that scheme; {N} is the raw page count. Start-at 3 on a 10-page file is how you continue a front-matter sequence. Positions: bottom left, bottom centre, bottom right, top left, top centre, top right. Default is bottom centre.
The stamp is Helvetica, one of the 14 fonts every PDF viewer already has, so nothing extra is embedded. Characters outside WinAnsi — most emoji, many CJK glyphs — become a question mark rather than aborting the file. You cannot pick a brand font here. That is the constraint that keeps the file portable, not a missing premium toggle.
PDF rotation is a flag on the page, not a rewrite of its coordinate system. Numbers sit in that native space: bottom-centre is the bottom of the unrotated media box. A page stored as portrait and flagged 90° will show the number on a visual side. Rotate the page first if the edge has to match the screen. That is a flag, not a prompt.
Credits are for models, not for page tokens
Caption burns, Hailuo takes, editor exports: those quote a credit figure before they charge. This tool does not quote a figure because there is no charge. Mixing the two is how teams burn a model on a file job — "just generate a deck that already has numbers." The numbers are this stamp. Generate when the page does not exist yet.
A repeating header/footer with the same tokens is a different free tool on the same shelf, also in-browser. A watermark is a third. None of them are a video model. If you needed a new one-pager designed, that is a generate, and it will cost credits.

Does PDF Page Numbers use credits or a free-generation quota?
Neither. It never spends a credit. The work never leaves your browser. Generation on Versely is a different surface and always bills.
Are my PDFs uploaded to Versely?
No. The tool uses the Canvas and File APIs on your machine. Nothing is sent to a server. Disconnect the network and it still works.
Why is the number on the wrong edge of a landscape page?
Because the page is stored with a rotation flag. The stamp follows the unrotated media box. Rotate the page first if the visual edge has to match the screen.
Can I prompt a model to typeset nicer numbers in my brand typeface?
You can waste the credits. This stamp is Helvetica on purpose so nothing extra is embedded. Brand type on a new layout is a generate. Numbering an existing proof is this page.
