6 apps for a Shopify PDP gallery
Shopify Media, Photoroom Max, Canva, Versely, Pixelcut, and Claid fill a PDP gallery. Pick by featured slot, variant still, or scene.
A Shopify product page is a gallery, not one hero. The first file is featured. The rest are the zoom, the back, the on-body, the scene, maybe a loop. Six apps fill that ordered set. Shopify's own Media editor is the shelf. Photoroom Max is the listing desk that can sync. Canva is the brand frame. Versely is the extra still (or a short loop after the still is locked). Pixelcut is the phone batch. Claid is the API folder. This page is that list. It is not Amazon MAIN. It is not "best AI product photography 2026."
Shopify will take a lifestyle as featured. Amazon will not. Do not copy an Amazon white pack into every Shopify slot and call it a gallery.
What a PDP gallery actually is
Shopify's help for adding product media (read 20 September 2026) is blunt about the cap and the order:
- Maximum 250 images, 3D models, or videos combined per product. The cap cannot be raised.
- The first media item is featured (main). It shows on collection pages, cart, checkout, and the home page. Drag a different file to slot one to change it.
- Product media types: PNG is the best type for most product images, then JPEG. Also PSD, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG, HEIC, WebP. Up to 5000 x 5000 px or 25 megapixels, file smaller than 20 MB. Square product images usually display best at 2048 x 2048 px.
- Collection grids crop oddly if featured images do not share an aspect ratio. Pick 1:1 or 4:5 for the whole catalog and stay there.
- Videos: up to 10 minutes, 1 GB, 4K,
.mp4/.mov/.webm. YouTube and Vimeo embeds are allowed. Theme must support video (Online Store 2.0 and Horizon family do). - 3D: GLB or USDZ, up to 500 MB.
- Variants: one image per variant. No 3D or video on a variant. Extra angles for a color live in the product gallery, grouped next to that color, with one file assigned as the variant preview.
Storage is a separate meter by plan (Basic 100 GB, Grow 300 GB, Advanced 500 GB, Plus 1 TB, read from the same add-media page on 20 September 2026). Removing a file from a product does not delete it from Content > Files. CSV imports can succeed and still skip Image Src rows. Check the gallery after an import.
A useful gallery is not 40 near-duplicates. It is a sequence a shopper can read: featured, back, scale, detail, on-body or in-hand, one lifestyle, optional loop.
The six apps
1. Shopify Media. Start here because the gallery is a Shopify object. Upload, drag to reorder, set featured, assign the variant preview, write alt text. The admin media editor can crop and run Shopify Magic edits. Destructive edits overwrite unless you Save as new. Revert to original exists for edits after January 2024. Native is enough when the photos are already right. Native is not a cutout tool, not a colorway tool, and not a model caster. Leave when the files on disk are still garage-wall JPEGs.
2. Photoroom Max. Start here if the files are messy and the store is Shopify. Photoroom's pricing (read 20 September 2026) puts Shopify Integration on Max and Ultra, not on Pro. Max is 25,000 AI credits and 3,000 exports. Ultra is 75,000 and 10,000, plus 4K. Independent US dollar reads (PulseSignal, 14 September 2026; AI Media Studio, 26 August 2026) put Max at $34.99 a month ($20.99 yearly) and Ultra at $99 ($82.50 yearly). Pro at $12.99 ($7.50 yearly) will cut backgrounds. It will not sync. Exports include editor, Batch, and Shopify sync, and they cap at 2K below Ultra. Video Generator is still not on Pro (up to 50 generations on Max, 150 on Ultra). Build the stills on Max. Put a loop in the gallery only if the theme plays video and you actually want motion. Most PDPs convert on stills.
3. Canva. Start here if the gallery has to match a brand kit you already use: type, logo-safe crops, a 4:5 that also becomes a post. Canva Pro is about $144 a year. Independent reads of the 2026 AI table (The Rundown, 29 August 2026; Moda, 9 September 2026) give Pro up to 2,000 Standard, 200 Premium, or 20 Ultra AI uses a month, shared. Image-to-video is Premium. High-quality video is Ultra. Twenty Ultra clips is a ceiling if you spend the bucket on nothing else. For a PDP, Canva is the frame and the consistent crop. It is a poor engine for 80 SKU galleries. Export 2048 on the side, then upload. Do not paste a Canva share link into Shopify Add from URL. Shopify wants a file, not a preview page.
4. Versely. Versely sits here because a gallery often needs two extra stills a Photoroom cutout will not invent: a true-to-life detail, a second angle from the same unit, or a quiet scene that still shows the SKU. Photograph first. Then edit. Nano Banana 2 is 4 credits discounted (7 full), edit-image plus image-to-image, up to 14 references. Attach the packshot. Ask for a second viewpoint only if you will QA the label. Flux 2 Max is 6 credits, photoreal, text-to-image only. It invents. Use it for a concept scene, then compare to the unit at 100 percent. Imagen 4 is shut down (17 August 2026). Do not open a leftover Imagen card. Recraft is vectors, not photos. Do not drop a Recraft illustration in slot one and call it the product. When the still is locked and the theme will play a loop, image-to-video with Hailuo 2.3 Fast is 12 credits at 6s discounted (23 full). Crop the still to the gallery ratio first. Shopify videos are not variant media. Keep the loop on the product, not on the swatch.
5. Pixelcut. Start here if the gallery is a phone folder and you need 1,000 similar exports, not a directed scene. Pixelcut's pricing (20 September 2026, yearly) is Pro at $8 a month billed yearly ($10 monthly) with 600 AI credits, unlimited background removal and upscale, 1,000 batch exports, commercial license. Business is $24 yearly ($30 monthly), 3,600 credits, 2,000 batch exports. That is a flatten-and-resize shop. AI backgrounds on Pixelcut can fill lifestyle slots. They can also clone the same marble 40 times. Vary the brief per slot: white or brand field for featured, one real surface for lifestyle, a macro for detail. Shopify still wants 2048. Upscale after you crop, not before.
6. Claid. Open Claid when the gallery is a pipeline, not a click. Claid's pricing page (read 20 September 2026) meters a credit pool: background removal 1 credit, AI Photoshoot 4, AI Fashion 4, AI Edit 4. The FAQ names Pro at 2,000 credits, with batch processing, priority queue, and brand kits on Pro and Business. Independent yearly-toggle reads (Pikes, late July 2026) put Essentials at $9 a month billed yearly and Pro at $35. Confirm checkout. The API is a separate door (Claid's API pricing page, re-read 20 September 2026) with chained operations. Use Claid when you will send a folder and get back Shopify-sized stills. Do not use Claid as a replacement for slot order. Shopify still needs a human to put featured first.
How to pick without 40 near-duplicates
Write the gallery as a sentence before you open an app.
- "The photos are done, I just need order and alt text": Shopify Media.
- "The photos are garage-wall and the store is Shopify": Photoroom Max.
- "Featured has to match the brand kit": Canva for the crop, Photoroom or Pixelcut for the cutout.
- "I need two extra stills from one locked packshot": Versely edit, then QA.
- "I have a folder of 80 SKUs": Pixelcut batch or Claid. Then a person orders the gallery.
- "I want a 6-second turn on the PDP": lock the still, then Hailuo, then upload video. Check the theme.
Two apps is a store. Photoroom Max plus Shopify Media covers most catalogs. Pixelcut plus Shopify Media covers a phone-first shop. Add Versely for the stills the batcher misses. Add Claid when an engineer will own the folder. Add Canva only if the brand kit already lives there.
Do not make every slot a white pack. Collection pages need a consistent ratio. The PDP needs information.
After the gallery is ordered
Open the live theme, not only admin. Featured is what collection cards show. If slot one is a lifestyle crop and slot two is the pack, the grid will look like a lookbook. That can be the brief. Make it on purpose.
Assign each variant its own preview. A navy swatch that still shows the cream pack is a return. Group extra navy angles next to that preview in the gallery. Shopify will not auto-filter them unless you are on Combined Listings (Plus and Enterprise).
Stay under 25 megapixels and 20 MB. A phone HEIC above 25 MP fails the upload. Re-export 2048. Alt text is not a slogan. Name the view.
When the extra still is the job, sign up and run the edit. When the job is upload and order, stay in Shopify. The list is six apps. The PDP is one sequence.
FAQ
Can the featured image be a lifestyle shot on Shopify?
Yes. Shopify does not require RGB 255, 255, 255 on slot one. Collection pages do require a consistent aspect ratio across featured images. A lifestyle featured is a brand choice. It is a bad Amazon MAIN. Keep the two files separate if you sell on both.
Why is Photoroom Max on this list and not Pro?
Shopify Integration starts at Max. Pro will cut the background. It will not sync. If you are exporting by hand, Pro can still feed the gallery. If you wanted the listing desk to publish, you are on Max or Ultra.
Where does Versely fit if Photoroom already syncs?
On the still Photoroom should not invent: a second angle from a locked pack, a quiet scene you will QA, a loop after picture lock. Photoroom Max remains the cutout-and-sync tool. Versely is not a Shopify app.
