6 apps SaaS teams use for a product tour
Screen Studio, Tella, Loom, Versely, Descript, and Arcade cover a SaaS product tour. Pick by polish, hosting, async, still-to-clip, transcript, or demo.
A product tour is a click path, not a brand film. SaaS teams need a 45-second walkthrough of the thing that shipped this week, a share link for a prospect, and a cut that still makes sense when the UI moves next Tuesday. Six apps cover that. Screen Studio is the polished Mac recording. Tella is the hosted recorder with a webcam bubble. Loom is the async seat already in the company. Versely is a short orbit from a UI still when you do not want to record. Descript is the transcript editor if someone already talked over the screen. Arcade is the interactive demo, not a linear clip. This is a job list. It is not "best AI video for SaaS 2026."
Record the real UI when the tour has to be true. A generated dashboard that is not your product is how a trial user notices first. Use a still-to-clip only for a locked screenshot you would print, a changelog card, or a founder hook next to the tour, not as a fake onboarding.
What a product tour actually is
Four files get called a tour, and they are not the same file.
A linear screen recording. Cursor, clicks, a zoom on the button that matters. Screen Studio, Tella, Loom. The test is: would a prospect understand the path without you on a call.
A talking overlay. Webcam bubble, a founder sentence, a support engineer. Tella and Loom. Screen Studio can be face-off and still win if the cursor work is the point.
A transcript edit of a ramble. Someone recorded twelve minutes. You need 45 seconds. Descript.
An interactive click-through. Hotspots, branching, a CTA. Arcade. That is a demo, not an MP4. Sales wants it on a landing page. Paid social still wants an MP4.
A cinematic fake of the UI. That is image-to-video from a screenshot. Versely Hailuo can move a locked plate. It will not stay in sync with a live app. If the button label changed this morning, regenerate nothing: record again.
A 90-second brand film of the office is not on this list. Runway and Luma are cinema seats. A product tour that looks like a perfume ad is a different brief, and usually a worse trial.
The six apps
1. Screen Studio. Start here if the tour is a Mac recording that has to look finished: automatic cursor-aware zoom, a clean desktop, an export you drop into a changelog. The Rundown's 30 August 2026 read of Screen Studio puts monthly at $29 and yearly at $9 a month billed as $108, same feature set, macOS only (Ventura 13.1 or later). You can record and edit without paying. Export is the gate. Lifetime licenses are gone for new buyers. Windows is not a port. If the team lives on Windows, skip this row. Screen Studio is not a host. It does not replace Loom's comment thread. It is the polish layer when the cursor is the talent.
2. Tella. Open Tella when the tour needs a webcam, a host page, and an embed, not only an MP4. Screen, camera, mic, system audio, a teleprompter, transcript editing, auto zoom. PulseSignal's 18 September 2026 read of tella.com/pricing, matching the live compare table, puts Pro at $13 per user per month billed annually and Premium at $19 billed annually. Monthly billing is about twice that (the page advertises 50 percent off annual). Pro is unlimited videos, 4K export, 106-language transcription, team collaboration, and analytics. Premium adds a custom domain, domain restriction, Tella branding off, 60 FPS export, and deeper analytics. Recording length per clip is 6 hours. Tella publishes education and nonprofit discounts. You stay because the recording is already a page you can send. You leave when you only needed a local export Screen Studio already made, or when the company already pays for Loom seats.
3. Loom. Open Loom when the tour is async work, not a marketing asset: a bug, a handoff, a prospect reply, a clip that dies in Slack. Atlassian's Loom pricing (read 20 September 2026) lists Starter free at 25 recordings per person, a 5-minute cap, 720p. Business is $18 per user per month (about $15 on annual, 17 percent off) with unlimited videos, no time cap, basic waveform editing, branding off. Business + AI is $24 per user per month (about $20 annual) and is the tier that unlocks filler-word removal, auto titles, summaries, and transcript-shaped edits. Enterprise is quote-only. Free is a trial of the habit, not a marketing library. If the tour is a public changelog, you will hit the 5-minute cap or the 25-video cap and wonder why the file looks like a Slack message. If the tour is "watch this before the call," Loom is the app people already have.
4. Versely. Versely sits here because a lot of tours start as a Figma frame or a dashboard screenshot, and nobody wants to record a click path for a 6-second changelog loop. That still becomes motion on image-to-video: Hailuo 2.3 Fast is 12 credits at 6s discounted (23 full) and 23 at 10s (45 full). Use a screenshot you would print. Blur anything that is a real customer. If the week is a founder hook next to the tour, Finger Snap is one photo, about 18 credits discounted (35 full). Do not run Finger Snap on a settings page. Versely is not Screen Studio. It will not zoom with your cursor. It is not Arcade. It will not add hotspots. It is the app when the still is locked and you want a short orbit, or a founder gag, without opening a recorder.
5. Descript. Open Descript when someone already talked over the screen, and the problem is the edit. You edit the video by editing the transcript. Silence comes out. Filler words come out. Studio Sound cleans the open office. Descript's pricing (read 20 September 2026, yearly) lists Hobbyist at $16 a person a month ($24 monthly) with 10 media hours and 400 AI credits, Creator at $24 ($35 monthly) with 30 media hours and 800 AI credits, Business at $50 ($65 monthly) with 40 media hours, 1,500 AI credits, and Brand Studio. Free is 60 media minutes a month, 720p, watermark on export. Descript will also record a screen. That does not make it Screen Studio. The product is the transcript. If nobody spoke, Descript is a slow way to trim a silent cursor path. If a PM rambled for twelve minutes on a Loom, import it and cut the doc.
6. Arcade. Open Arcade when the tour is supposed to be clicked, not watched: hotspots, branching, a form, a CTA, an embed on the pricing page. Arcade's pricing (read 20 September 2026) lists Free at $0 with 1 published demo, 1 published video, unlimited views, and 200 AI credits a month. Growth is $50 a month per seat, or $42.50 billed annually, with 800 AI credits, custom branding, MP4 and GIF export, demo branching, CTAs and forms. Enterprise is custom, with 100,000 AI credits a year and SSO. Interactive demos do not spend credits. Generated videos cost 50 credits per 30 seconds. Generated visuals cost 50 credits each. Free is a proof. Growth is a GTM seat. Arcade is the wrong app if you needed a 45-second paid social cut and no one will click. It is the right app if sales wants a prospect to drive. Export the MP4 from Growth when the same story has to run as a linear ad.
How a team picks one recorder
Write the tour in one sentence.
- "A Mac recording that has to look finished, cursor as talent": Screen Studio.
- "A hosted page with a webcam bubble and an embed": Tella.
- "A Slack handoff, a bug, a five-minute async": Loom.
- "A locked screenshot that needs a 6-second orbit": Versely Hailuo. "A founder hook next to the tour": Versely Finger Snap.
- "Someone already talked for twelve minutes": Descript.
- "The prospect should click, not watch": Arcade.
Two apps is a team. Screen Studio plus Loom covers polish plus async. Tella plus Arcade covers a hosted recording plus an interactive demo. Descript plus Loom covers a ramble you already have. Versely is a still, not a click path. Six apps is a stack you will not open, and a stack finance will ask about at renewal.
A live walkthrough on a call still beats a generated dashboard. Use the recorder for truth. Use the still-to-clip for the card next to it.
After the click path
Mute viewers still need words. Tella, Loom, Descript, and Arcade all caption or transcribe. Overlay a plan name so you can change it when pricing moves. Do not bake "$12/user" into a generated still.
Blur customer data. A dashboard still is a document. If a name, an email, or an MRR number is in the pixels, it is in the tour.
When the UI ships again, rerecord. Do not prompt Hailuo to "update the button." The still is last week's product.
When the job is a locked screenshot and a short orbit, sign up and run image-to-video. When the job is a click path, stay in Screen Studio, Tella, Loom, or Arcade. The list is six apps. The tour is one path.
FAQ
Can Hailuo replace a screen recording?
For a 6-second changelog loop of a locked plate, sometimes. For a click path a prospect has to trust, no. Generated UI drifts. Record the real product.
Do I need both Loom and Tella?
Almost never. Loom is the async seat the company already bought. Tella is the hosted marketing recorder. If you already pay for Loom Business, add Screen Studio for polish or Arcade for clicks. Do not add Tella "just in case."
Why is Versely in the middle of a recorder list?
Because some tours start as a still. Hailuo is a cheap orbit of a screenshot. Finger Snap is a founder hook. Neither is a cursor path. If your tour is clicks, you do not need Versely. If your tour is one frame, you might.
