PDF Colour Invert renders each page, inverts every pixel, and rebuilds a PDF from those images. Useful for reading a light document in the dark. It runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Nothing is sent to a model. There is no account gate and no generation meter. That is the product constraint for the whole free-tools shelf: Canvas, the File API, or arithmetic on the visitor's machine. A "dark mode" that quietly called an image model or a chat completion would be a generate wearing a utility label.
Versely has no free tier for generation. Every model call costs credits. Browser utilities sidestep that because they cost nothing to run. Use this tool when the job is "I need the pages inverted." Do not prompt a video or image model to "make this PDF dark mode."
Raster invert lives on your laptop
The file you choose is read into memory locally, rasterised there, inverted there, and offered back as a download named from the original plus -inverted.pdf. Network off, it still works. That is also why it is actually free: no hardware of ours is in the loop. What it costs is the other book — credit formulas for per-second video, per-character voice, per-megapixel stills, caption burns, editor exports. PDF Colour Invert is not in that book. If a job is in that book, it is not this tool.
Do not paste pages into an AI image generator and ask for a "dark-mode version." You will spend a still rate to invent a visualisation of a proof. You will not get a pixel-accurate invert. You will get a generate. The invert already flips every pixel. That is the artefact.
Guards are stated before you pick a file: PDFs up to 150 MB and 500 pages. Rendering allocates about 25 MB per page at export resolution, which is what the page cap protects. A 500 MB scan is not a prompt problem. It is a laptop-memory problem.
Text becomes a picture of text
The page is a picture of the page. Text stops being selectable and searchable — that is the trade, and it is the only way this tool inverts what a PDF actually draws. Inverting live PDF operators would need a full interpreter that rewrites every colour, pattern and image. This tool does not pretend it did that.
Photographs invert too. Every pixel is inverted, including photos, logos and UI chrome. There is no "text only" invert without understanding the page's objects, which a raster pass does not. Crop the photos out first if they have to stay as shot.
Render scale is a slider, not a prompt: 1.0 to 2.5, shown as 72–180 DPI. Higher scale is a sharper bitmap and a heavier file. It is not a 4K generate. The output pages keep the original point size of the PDF; the invert is a JPEG of the canvas drawn back onto that page.
A model night-mode is a billed job
Caption burns, Hailuo takes, H3 plates, editor exports: those quote a credit figure before they charge. PDF Colour Invert does not quote a figure because there is no charge. Mixing the two is how teams burn a model on a file job — "just screenshot the PDF and generate a night mode." Night mode is this invert. Screenshot if you need a still for a ticket. Do not generate.
If you needed a pixel compare of two proofs, that is PDF Compare on the same shelf, also in-browser. If you needed a new page designed, that is a generate, and it will cost credits. Honesty about which object you are in is the whole decision.
FAQ
Does invert spend credits if the PDF has many pages?
No. Page count does not create a generation. The cap is 500 pages because of memory, not because of a meter. The work never leaves your browser.
Are my PDFs uploaded to Versely?
No. The tool uses the Canvas and File APIs on your machine. Nothing is sent to a server.
Why can't I select text in the result?
The page is a bitmap. Inverting live operators is a different job. If you need a selectable inverted copy, this tool will not pretend it did it.
Can I prompt a model to invert only the text and leave photos?
You can waste the credits. You will not get this tool's pixel invert, and you will not get a live text layer. Crop photos first if they have to stay as shot, then invert here.
