PDF Header & Footer in the browser is not a generate

/free-tools/pdf-header-footer never spends a credit. Do not pay a model to do an in-browser file job. PDF in, repeating header and footer lines out, on the machine in front of you. No upload. No account. No model. The work is drawing Helvetica on every page, which is why it can be actually free.

Versely has no free tier for generation. Every model call spends credits, shown before you confirm. Routing a contract through an image model "to add page numbers that look designed" is how a file job becomes a bill.

Running lines are arithmetic, not a layout generate

PDF Header & Footer draws a header line at top-centre and a footer line at bottom-centre on every page. Tokens: {page} and {pages} for the current number and the total, plus {n} / {N} as aliases. A start-at offset shifts the scheme: {page} is 1 for the first page of this file, plus any start offset you set. Printed page numbers already in the original — a preface numbered i, ii, iii — are pixels or text in the content stream. This tool cannot read them, and it will not continue that scheme.

The font is Helvetica. Helvetica encodes WinAnsi. Emoji, CJK, and many symbols are replaced with ? so the rest of the file still writes, rather than failing the whole document on one glyph. Curly quotes and dashes are folded to ASCII. That is a codec, not a style choice.

Size and margin are sliders (size 6–120, margin 8–96 pt). They are not a prompt. Asking a video model to "typeset a running header in our brand serif" will give you a picture of a document, billed as a picture.

Draw on top. Do not replace the letterhead.

Existing headers in the file are not replaced. The tool draws a new text run on top of whatever is already there. A letterhead, a logo, or a previous footer stays put. If the new line collides with existing content, raise the margin or remove the old header in the source and export again. Collision is a layout problem. It is not a reason to generate a "clean letterhead page."

Nothing is uploaded. The file is read into memory, processed there, and offered as a download. Network off, it still works. There is no server-side copy, because there was no request.

The PDF guard is stated before you pick a file: up to 150 MB and 500 pages. A huge scan will take the tab down. That is your browser, not a credit meter.

The free-tools set never calls a model, an API, or the network. A "header" that quietly spent credits would contradict the pricing page.

The cost book does not list this tool

The cost hub maps the jobs that meter: per second, per thousand characters, per megapixel, per tier, per export. None of that arithmetic applies here.

Do not paste pages into chat and ask a video model to turn them into a branded one-pager with running feet. You will get a clip of a document. Use this tool when the job is PDF in, header and footer out, no model. Use /cost when the job is a picture, a clip, a voice, or an edit.

If you needed a new page designed, that is a generate, and it will cost credits. Honesty about which object you are in is the whole decision.

FAQ

Does a running header spend credits?

No. There is no account gate and no generation meter. The work never leaves the tab. Generation on Versely is a different surface and always bills; this tool is not on that surface.

Does this replace the header that is already in the file?

No. It draws on top. A letterhead stays. If the new line collides, raise the margin or strip the old header in the source.

Why did {page} not match the number in my viewer?

{page} is 1 for the first page of this file, plus any start offset you set. Roman prefaces and "page 12 of the original print" are not read. The tool does not continue someone else's scheme.

Can I ask the agent to run this so it spends from my balance?

You should not. This is not a generate and not an agent tool that meters. Open the free-tool page, set the lines, download. If the agent is generating a PDF-shaped image, that is a model call. Check the credit quote before you confirm, or skip the model and use the browser tool.
