Cover a song for the locked mix, not as a first-pass soundtrack
cover_music reinterprets a track you already have, then you attach it. Covering a maybe, or covering before picture lock, spends a generate on a bed the cut will not keep.
A cover is a new arrangement of a song you already have a URL for — your upload or a prior generate — not a blank-prompt generate_music. cover_music is for when the song is right and the feel is wrong: acoustic instead of glossy, lo-fi instead of anthem. Then attach_audio_to_video puts it on a clip. That sequence assumes a picture whose duration and mood are settled. A miss does not get a custom arrangement.
Add a cover song to your video is the job. Billed per cover, in the neighborhood of a standard music generate. estimate_cost before you run it. Rights still matter: a cover generate does not confer commercial rights to a third-party original.
The source song is a lock of its own
If you are still choosing between three references, you are not in cover_music. You are in listening. Covering all three "to hear them on the picture" is three generates plus attaches onto a picture that may itself die. Hear them in a player. Cover the one you will mix, onto the cut you will ship.
Runtime still rules. A cover is not magically the length of the video. If the locked cut is 12 seconds, you needed a short arrangement or a trim of the cover, not a full-verse generate you will fade at 0:08.
The AI music generator is the family. Cover is the branch for an existing melody. Blank-prompt writing is the other branch. Neither is how you hide a bad take.
Attach is still mix-versus-replace
If the video has a line you are keeping, mix. If the plate is MOS, replace is honest. Both attaches wait for picture lock. Covering into replace on a candidate mutes native audio you might have wanted as evidence, and glues an arrangement to frames you will regen.
Do not cover as a rights workaround. If you cannot use the original, you still cannot use a cover of it for a client delivery without a clearance story. That is a legal later-step, not a music one.
Order
- Lock picture and duration.
- Confirm the source URL is the song you mean, and that you are allowed to use this path.
- Generate the cover for the mood of the keeper.
- Attach once. Duck the voice.
FAQ
How is this different from generate_music?
generate_music writes from a prompt. cover_music reinterprets a track you already have. If you do not have a source URL, you are in the wrong tool.
Can I cover, then extend, then attach?
Yes — on a runtime you know. Extending a cover you will not mix is two music bills on a ghost. Extend after the cover is the bed.
Should I cover while sampling picture so the mood is "in the file"?
No. Mood in the file is how you get attached to the wrong file. Keep the reference in a tab. Score the keeper.
Does attaching the cover caption anything?
No. If you later burn speech captions, they follow the mix you shipped. Cover first (on the locked cut), then caption.
