Isolate the voice you will ship, not the noisy take you will regen

isolate_audio strips music and instrumentation from a mixed recording and leaves a vocal. It takes any audio_url, not only in-app Suno jobs. That is the general-purpose rescue: noisy VO, a line buried under a bed, a keeper that would caption better if the recognizer heard a clean voice. Rescue is for keepers. A new take has new noise. Isolation of a dead take does not transfer.

Isolate vocals from a track is the job. Billed per clip, by length. estimate_cost on a long file. This is not separate_music_vocals, which needs a prior generate_music taskId/audioId and returns vocal plus instrumental stems of your Suno track.

Rescue is downstream of the picture

Extra tools finish the file before handover puts isolation in the after-lock kit for a reason. Taste is cheap at preview. Delivery is the clean stem. If you are still regenerating the talking head, you are not in delivery.

Teams isolate first because karaoke captions failed, or because the clone sounded muddy. Those are real problems on a signed soundtrack. On a candidate they are a delay. Listen. If the take is wrong, regen. If the take is right and dirty, isolate, then caption or clone from the cleaned file.

Separation quality follows the mix. A smashed master isolates worse. That is another reason not to "see if isolation can save" a take you already dislike. It cannot save the eyes.

When this is the right later step

• Captioning a locked talking clip whose bed is confusing the transcriber.
• Preparing a keeper VO to recast with change_voice.
• Pulling a usable voice out of a mixed recording you will actually attach.

Then reattach if you need the vocal back on the same locked picture. Isolation returns audio. It does not edit the video for you.

Order

1. Lock the take.
2. Isolate if the mix is the problem.
3. Caption, recast, or lay the vocal. Do not isolate "in case."

The AI music generator is often how the competing bed got there. Mix quieter next time on the keeper. Isolation is the rescue, not the plan.

FAQ

Can I isolate, then decide the take is bad?

You can. You have now spent the rescue. Watch the picture first. Isolation does not grade a performance.

Why not always use separate_music_vocals?

That tool is for in-app Suno generates identified by ids. Random uploads and native-audio clips are isolate_audio.

Should I isolate before dubbing?

If the parent mix is dirty and this is the master, clean it first. Dubbing a noisy parent copies the noise into every language. Still: parent locked, then isolate, then dub.

Does isolation improve a bad clone sample?

It can, if the sample is the sample you will clone from and it is merely mixed, not ruined. Do not isolate a random take to mint identity. Record a clean sample.
