    5 presenter apps for a course, no filming

    Synthesia, Colossyan, Elai, Versely, and VEED make course presenters without a shoot. Pick by SCORM, Learn, PPT notes, credits, or editor.

    The module is written. Nobody will go on camera. You still need a presenter on the lesson, and five apps will put a face on the script without a studio day. Synthesia is the enablement studio with SCORM on Enterprise. Colossyan is video-and-courses in one product, SCORM on Professional. Elai is the PPT notes field as speech. Versely is a credit-pool presenter for short explainers, not an LMS. VEED is the editor you already subtitle in, with a metered avatar year. This page is that list. It is not "best elearning 2026." It is not a replacement for an LMS you already pay for.

    The presenter is synthetic. Tell the learners. Do not generate a fake student testimonial. A course can use a catalog face as a host. It cannot use a catalog face as "what our cohort said."

    What a no-film course presenter is

    The job is: a lesson with a talking host, no shoot. Slides, a script, a quiz maybe, a package the LMS will take. Not a 15-second ad. Not a talking photo of the founder for LinkedIn. If the "course" is a Reel series, you are on a talking-head list, not this one.

    Three files get collapsed:

    The presenter clip. A face saying the module. Synthesia, Colossyan, Elai, Versely, VEED.

    The course shell. Outline, scenes, interactivity, SCORM. Synthesia Enterprise. Colossyan Learn (SCORM on Professional and up). Elai has quizzes. VEED and Versely do not ship SCORM. If procurement's only question is "does it export SCORM," two of these five apps are out until you wrap the MP4 yourself.

    The slide deck. The pictures the host stands next to. Elai treats notes as speech. Synthesia and Colossyan import PPT. VEED has a slides-to-video tease on cheaper plans. Versely does not import a deck.

    Length is the budget. Public seats often meter 10 to 30 minutes of video a month. An 8-minute module with one retry is 16 minutes. A 12-module onboarding path is a different invoice than a single explainer.

    The five apps

    1. Synthesia. Start here if L&D already thinks in avatars and decks. Synthesia's pricing (read 20 September 2026) is Basic at $0, 1,200 credits, about 10 minutes of video, 9 avatars, no MP4 on the free story. Starter $29 a month or $18 yearly: downloads, 125+ avatars, 3 personal avatars, 10 minutes of video a month (about 120 a year on annual credits). Creator $89 or $64 yearly: 3,600 credits, about 30 minutes a month (360 a year), 180+ avatars, 5 personal avatars, API, interactive quizzes and branching on that tier. Enterprise: unlimited minutes, SCORM export, brand kits, SSO, 240+ avatars, 1-click translation. PowerPoint import is on the product. Personal avatars are how a real instructor becomes a reusable host without filming every module. Studio Express-1 is $1,000 a year on annual plans. Starter will not give you SCORM. If the RFP says SCORM, you are in sales, not in $18.

    2. Colossyan. Open Colossyan when the course is the product, not a video you will later upload to an LMS by hand. Colossyan's pricing (read 20 September 2026) lists Starter free: 20 minutes of NEO a month, unlimited course creation, PPT/PDF import, 15 auto-translations a month, 10 interactive videos a month, multilingual player, 0 SCORM. Professional $59 a month annual: 30 minutes NEO, 10 minutes NEO2, 5 SCORM exports a month (video and course), watermark off, extra editor $30 a month. Enterprise: unlimited NEO, unlimited SCORM (streaming and self-contained), SSO, data residency. Studio custom avatars $1,000 a year. Unused monthly minutes do not roll. Annual plans credit the year up front. 120+ languages. Scene limit 40 on Starter and Professional. You stay because Learn and the presenter are one login. You leave when you needed one 6-minute explainer and no LMS pack. That is a presenter row, not a training platform.

    3. Elai. Open Elai when the course already exists as a PowerPoint with notes. Elai's pricing (read 20 September 2026) is Free at 1 minute. Creator $29 a month or $23 yearly ($276 a year), 15 minutes a month, Full HD. Team $125 or $100 yearly ($1,200 a year), 50 minutes, 4K, 3 editors. Extra minutes $2. Every render spends minutes, including a re-render after a typo. Image-based quizzes are a documented feature. Studio avatar $500 a year, selfie $199, voice clone $200. Team annual includes 1 selfie and 1 voice clone. Elai will not replace Cornerstone. It will turn the notes you already wrote into a host. If the slides have no notes, you do not have a course presenter. You have a deck.

    4. Versely. Versely sits here because a lot of "courses" are actually a short explainer plus a PDF, and the team does not need SCORM this quarter. Generate the host on HeyGen Avatar V5: 8 credits a second, 40 minimum, 960 maximum, premade avatars, script or audio. For a longer, cheaper mouth pass, HeyGen Avatar V3 is 3 credits a second, 14 minimum, 327 maximum. Burn captions after, on the AI caption generator, because mute learners still read. Versely is not an LMS. There is no SCORM button. There is no 12-module outline editor. It will not import your PPT notes. It is the app when module one is a 45-second host intro, the rest is a Notion doc, and you already buy other generates on the same pool. Do not buy a $59 training seat for that intro. Do not use Versely for a 40-scene compliance course.

    5. VEED. Open VEED when the lesson is a screen-plus-host clip you will subtitle and upload, not a SCORM package. VEED's pricing (read 20 September 2026, yearly) showed Lite at $12 a month per editor ($144 a year) and Pro at $29 a month per editor ($348 a year). AI avatars on that load were 4 hours a year on Pro. Slides-to-video showed as a try-once tease on cheaper tiers. Recheck. You stay because the timeline, captions, and a short presenter share a project. You leave when the LMS team asks for a SCORM zip. Wrap the MP4 yourself, or go back to Colossyan Professional / Synthesia Enterprise.

    How to pick for a module

    Write the export before you pick the face.

    • LMS needs SCORM: Colossyan Professional (5 exports a month) or Synthesia Enterprise. Everyone else is an MP4 you wrap later.
    • Deck with notes is the course: Elai.
    • Enablement studio, personal instructor twin, interactivity: Synthesia Creator, Enterprise if SCORM.
    • One short host intro, no LMS: Versely.
    • Lesson already lives as a VEED project: VEED.

    Two apps is a stack. Colossyan plus nothing covers a team that lives in Learn. Synthesia plus an LMS covers a team that already has Docebo. Elai plus an LMS covers a PPT shop. Versely plus a PDF covers a founder-led mini-course. Five apps is how a no-film module becomes five presenters and no learners.

    Count minutes. Synthesia Starter is about 10 a month. Elai Creator is 15. Colossyan Professional is 30 of NEO plus 10 of NEO2. An 8-minute module times 12 is 96 minutes before retries. That is not a Starter plan. Credits on Versely are duration-driven. A 45-second V5 intro is 45 × 8 = 360 credits, above the 40 floor, under the 960 ceiling. Quote that in credits. Quote seats in USD, dated 20 September 2026 here, rechecked on their pages the day you buy.

    After the lesson exports

    Watch the module once as a learner on a phone. Names, policy numbers, and "not" are the failure modes. If the policy changes on Tuesday, do not bake the old rule into generated speech. Overlay it, or regenerate that scene only.

    Label the host. Article 50 is the EU transparency rule. The Article 50 disclosure template is the paste line. Internal-only training still deserves an honest "this presenter is generated" line. Learners notice teeth and blinks. Pretending otherwise wastes trust you need for the quiz.

    Do not generate a fake graduate. Do not clone an instructor who did not consent.

    When the job is a short host intro on a credit pool, sign up and run V5 or V3. When the job is a SCORM course, stay in Colossyan or Synthesia Enterprise. The list is five apps. The module is one outline.

    FAQ

    Does any of this replace an LMS?

    No. Synthesia and Colossyan export into one. Elai, Versely, and VEED give you a file. Cornerstone, Docebo, and Workday are still the classroom. A presenter app is the host, not the school.

    Is SCORM on every plan?

    No. Colossyan Starter: 0. Colossyan Professional: 5 a month. Colossyan Enterprise: unlimited. Synthesia: SCORM is an Enterprise line on the public table. Elai, Versely, and VEED: bring your own packager. If the RFP is SCORM, two vendors, two paid tiers.

    Why is Versely on a course list?

    Because a lot of courses are a 45-second host plus a document. V5 and V3 are real presenter rows for that intro. They are not a 12-module SCORM studio. If L&D owns a catalog of lessons, Versely is the wrong first click. If the founder needs a no-film intro this week, it is a row.
