6 apps for a course promo without filming
HeyGen, Synthesia, Canva, Versely, ElevenLabs, and CapCut make a course promo without a camera. Pick by avatar, slides, one-tap, voice, or edit.
A course promo without filming is a real job. You have slides, a headshot, a curriculum outline, and a cart date. You do not have a camera day. Six apps cover that. HeyGen is the talking avatar. Synthesia is the lesson-shaped avatar seat. Canva is the slide kit. Versely is a one-tap from the headshot if the promo is allowed to look like a trend. ElevenLabs is the voice if you want audio without a face. CapCut is the editor that assembles the rest. This is not "best AI avatar 2026." It is not a pitch to never record a lesson.
Record the course itself if you can. Students can tell. Use the six apps for the promo: the teaser, the waitlist, the objection clip, the email GIF. Do not sell a twelve-week cohort with only a generated presenter and hope the refunds stay quiet.
What a no-camera course promo actually is
Four files, not one.
A talking head that is not you, or is a twin of you. Script in, face out. HeyGen and Synthesia live here. Disclose the synthetic presenter where the platform asks. Do not caption an avatar as a student testimonial.
A slide deck that already exists. Modules, a price, a date. Canva, or a PowerPoint you import. Motion on the deck is a Ken Burns pass, not a lecture.
A headshot gag. The founder who "would never dance," the mugshot joke, a snap. That is a promo hook, not the syllabus. Versely lives here.
A voice with no picture. ElevenLabs. Useful for Stories, for a podcast cutdown, for an email that autoplays muted until someone taps.
An editor. Someone has to put the avatar, the slides, and the captions on one timeline. That is CapCut.
A webinar replay you never recorded is not on this list. Opus Clip and Descript start from a long file. If you have no file, those apps have nothing to cut.
The six apps
1. HeyGen. Start here if the promo needs a face saying the pitch and you will not sit down. Avatar, script, a language pass. HeyGen's pricing (read 20 September 2026) lists Creator at $29 a month ($24 billed annually) with 600 credits, Pro at $49 with 1,000 credits and 4K export, Business at $149 plus $20 a seat. Free is 3 videos a month, up to 1 minute. Creator videos go up to 30 minutes. Monthly unused credits roll one extra month. Annual credits accumulate until renewal. Versely also runs HeyGen Avatar V5 as a catalog row: 8 credits a second, 40 minimum, 960 maximum. That is not a HeyGen seat. The HeyGen subscription is the vendor app with avatars, templates, and a seat price you should read on HeyGen's own page the day you buy. Disclose the avatar. Do not use it as a fake student. Do not use it as a fake live Q&A.
2. Synthesia. Open Synthesia when the promo is supposed to look like a lesson clip, not a social avatar: slides behind a presenter, a language pass, an LMS-shaped export later if you need one. Synthesia's pricing (read 20 September 2026) lists Basic at $0 with 1,200 credits a month (about 10 minutes of video, no download on the marketing copy), Starter at $29 a month or $18 billed yearly with downloads, 125-plus stock avatars, and still about 10 minutes of video a month, Creator at $89 a month with 3,600 credits (about 30 minutes), 5 personal avatars, and API access. Enterprise is custom and is where unlimited minutes, SCORM, and SSO show up. Starter's 10 minutes is a promo ceiling, not a course factory. If you needed a 45-minute module, you are on Creator math or a real recording. PowerPoint import is on the comparison table. Personal avatars are a twin of you, still a synthetic presenter. Disclose them.
3. Canva. Curriculum decks already live here. Brand kit, resize, a 4:5 waitlist card, maybe a short clip on the same canvas. Canva Pro is $18 a month in the US. September 2026 yearly quotes split: DailyFix (19 September) around $144, Moda (9 September) around $180. Trust checkout. Premium AI covers image-to-video. Ultra AI covers the heavier clips and is the tight bucket on Pro (about 20 uses a month in those reads). One teaser a week fits. Forty module motions do not. Import the HeyGen or CapCut file onto the slide. Keep the cart date as overlay so you can slip it.
4. Versely. Versely sits here because a lot of course promos have one decent headshot and no time to write a camera paragraph. The headshot becomes a named format, not a lecture. MJ Dance is one photo plus a motion-control pass, about 57 credits discounted (63 full). That is a reluctant-founder joke, not module one. Do not run MJ Dance on a slide. If the still is a course cover or a product mock and you want a gentle orbit, that is image-to-video: Hailuo 2.3 Fast is 12 credits at 6s discounted (23 full) and 23 at 10s (45 full). Versely is not HeyGen. It will not read your sales script. It is not Synthesia. It will not export SCORM. It is the app when the promo is allowed to look like a trend, and you still want a cheap cover-orbit later on the same bill.
5. ElevenLabs. Open ElevenLabs when the promo is a voice, not a face: a 30-second Story, a podcast teaser, an email that does not need lips. ElevenLabs pricing (read 20 September 2026) lists Creator at $22 a month ($11 the first month) with 121,000 credits, Starter at $6 with 30,000, Pro at $99 with 600,000. Credits are a shared pool. Text to speech is about 1 credit per character on the multilingual V2 line. Music is 900 credits a minute and draws from the same pool. Unused paid credits can roll for up to two months. The Free plan does not roll. A 20-second pitch is a Creator job. A localized 12-language catalog of teasers is a Pro job, or Synthesia's dubbing bucket, depending on whether you need a face. Disclose synthetic voice. Do not clone a student.
6. CapCut. Finish here. Avatar file, slide export, VO, captions, a 9:16. CapCut is free at a usable level for a weekly teaser. Auto captions exist because mute is the default. You stay because export and captions are in the same app. You leave when there is nothing to assemble because you never generated a file. CapCut's AI video generator will also animate a cover still if you skipped Versely Hailuo. It will not replace HeyGen if the job is a talking presenter. It will not replace Synthesia if the job is a lesson-shaped clip with a personal avatar.
How to pick without a shoot
Write the promo in one sentence.
- "A face has to say the pitch, and I will not record": HeyGen.
- "It should look like a short lesson, with slides behind a presenter": Synthesia.
- "It has to sit on the brand template we already use": Canva, with or without a generated clip.
- "The hook is a headshot gag": Versely MJ Dance. "The hook is the cover moving": Versely Hailuo.
- "I only need a voice": ElevenLabs, then captions in CapCut.
- "I already have three files and need one export": CapCut.
Two apps is a promo. HeyGen plus CapCut covers a talking teaser. Canva plus ElevenLabs covers a voiced slide. Synthesia plus Canva covers a lesson-shaped clip. Versely is a hook, not the syllabus. Six apps is a stack you will not open.
A real recording of you teaching still beats every avatar on this list. Use the camera for the course. Use the six apps for the week you promote it.
After the waitlist
Mute viewers still need words. CapCut and Synthesia both caption. Overlay the price and the date so you can slip them. Do not bake "starts Monday" into generated letters.
A template clip is allowed to look like a template. A testimonial is not. If a student did not say it, do not generate a student saying it.
Proof slides at 100 percent after motion. A misspelled module name becomes a crawling misspelled module name.
When the promo is a headshot gag or a cover orbit, sign up and run the row. When the promo is a scripted avatar, stay in HeyGen or Synthesia. The list is six apps. The course is still the product.
FAQ
Can I sell the whole course as avatar lessons?
You can generate. Refunds and reviews will sort it. Avatars are a promo and a localization pass. A cohort that paid for you usually wanted you. If the course is software training and the presenter was always a stock avatar, Synthesia is a different, honest job.
Do I need both HeyGen and Synthesia?
Almost never. HeyGen is the social talking head. Synthesia is the lesson-shaped seat. Pick the sentence that matches the promo. Paying for both is how you get two avatars you do not post.
Why is Versely in the middle if it does not read a script?
Because the no-camera week is not only avatars. MJ Dance from a headshot is a hook. Hailuo on a cover is a loop. If your promo is a scripted face, you do not need Versely. If your promo is one still, you might.
