Facebook Reels is not a second master

Use the same 9:16 file on Facebook Reels and Instagram. Meta AI info still applies. Do not re-generate a cousin clip for Facebook.

Facebook Reels is not a second master. Ship the same 9:16 file you already locked for Instagram. Meta AI info still applies on Facebook. Do not re-generate a cousin clip, do not flip the ratio, and do not treat a new Seedance take as “localization.”

This page is one file, two Meta surfaces. It is not a claim that Facebook Page identity equals the Instagram profile badge, and it is not a Reels-bonus explainer.

    One 9:16 master

Pick 9:16 before you generate if the clip is for Reels. Pick 9:16 before you generate is the ratio rule. Cropping a 16:9 hero after the fact is a new crop. It is not a vertical shot. Facebook Reels is still a vertical player. A second generate “for Facebook” that comes back 16:9, or 1:1, or a different face, is a new ad, not a placement.

Meta’s family is the reason this is cheaper than it looks. Instagram Reels and Facebook Reels are both 9:16 short-form on the same company. Captions, safe-area, and the talking distance you already fought for on IG are the right object on FB. Recheck chrome — Facebook’s buttons are not Instagram’s — but recheck is a caption nudge, not a new model call.

What a second master usually costs:

    • Another catalog generate (Seedance 2.0 at 69 credits for a 4–15s 1080p native-audio hold, or whatever row you used)
    • A new identity drift on the SKU or the face
    • A new AI-info path that disagrees with the Instagram post
    • A new caption burn that misspells the SKU the first file got right

None of that is required because the destination string says Facebook. Duplicate the locked MP4. Publish. If the Page wants a 1:1 in-feed still, that is a poster frame or a separate still job, not a new Reel.

Cross-posting inside Meta can be a Graph API hop. ImgKey’s mid-2026 note: Graph API and cross-post integrations are less consistent for C2PA than direct app uploads. If you need Instagram to read Content Credentials, a Facebook-first scheduler push may not be the same as an Instagram app upload. That is a provenance-path issue. It is not a reason to regenerate the picture. If credentials matter on the Instagram post, upload the signed master there directly, then send the same bytes to Facebook Reels. Two publishes, one file, not two generates.

    Meta AI info still applies

Facebook may apply AI info from C2PA, classifiers, or a toggle, the same family of signals Instagram uses. How Meta decides to show an AI Info label is the ingest page. Boosting or running the file as an ad can also hit Ads Manager auto-label: Background Generation, Image Generation, Add Animation (Coinis, 16 July 2026), and third-party detection from 1 June 2026.

    Do not assume:

    • Facebook will skip AI info because Instagram already showed it. Surfaces can label independently. Self-disclose on both if the file is generated.
    • Facebook will skip AI info because you re-generated without C2PA. You spent credits to drop the cooperative signal. Detectors and self-disclosure still exist. You also got a different clip.
    • The Instagram AI-generated profile badge covers the Facebook Page. The 31 August 2026 Instagram rule is an Instagram profile identity control (TechCrunch, 31 August 2026). A Facebook Page is a different identity object. Persona Pages still need their own honesty. Human Pages still should not wear a fake-person badge because a Reel used AI captions.

Article 50 does not care which Meta app played the file. First exposure is first exposure. If an EU viewer would take the person, place, or event as real, the perceivable label has to be in the file, not only in Instagram’s three-dot menu. Burn it once on the master. Both Reels inherit it.

Organic versus ads remains two switches on the same master: the organic toggle on the post, the ads auto-label on the campaign. Do not cut a “clean Facebook ads version” by stripping metadata. Keep the signed export. Let Meta read it. Disclose in the picture.

    Do not re-generate

    Re-generation is how SKUs drift.

The locked Instagram Reel has the bottle label spelled right, the founder’s real hands, the caption that legal signed. A new prompt on the same row will invent a cousin: a different label wrap, a different extra in the background, a different mouth shape on the same line. Facebook users then see a product that is not the product. That is not “platform-native creative.” That is a second, worse take.

When Facebook actually needs a different cut, edit the master:

    • Trim the hook if Facebook’s first three seconds behave differently in your data
    • Move captions if Facebook chrome covers a line Instagram left visible
    • Swap an end card
    • Do not re-roll the generate unless the master is wrong for both placements

The UGC video generator is for making the talking file once. Add captions is for burning the line once. Facebook is a destination. Destinations do not get their own model calls unless the brief changed.

If someone on the team says “Facebook underperformed, regenerate,” look at the hook, the first claim, the comment bait, the audience. Look at the file second. A cousin generate resets the test. You cannot learn whether Facebook Reels works for this creative if this creative no longer exists.

Captions and safe-area still need a pass

    Same file, not zero QC.

Watch the Facebook preview. Username, like cluster, and caption strip are not Instagram’s. A line that was safe on IG can sit under Facebook chrome. Nudge the caption track. Do not regenerate the mouth to “make room.” Safe-area is a snapshot of the current UI. Caption timing still has to match speech on mute autoplay.

Run the pre-publish check on the locked master: ratio 9:16, safe-area, captions, AI label, SKU spelling. Then publish that file twice. If Facebook needs a 4:5 in-feed variant later, that is a recrop of the same picture, logged as a recrop, not a new Seedance.

Generate once in the AI video generator. If you want that discipline as the default, sign up and keep Facebook Reels as a placement, not as a second brief.

    FAQ

Should Facebook Reels be 16:9 because Facebook is “desktop”?

No. Reels are 9:16 on Facebook the way they are on Instagram. A 16:9 master is a different object (in-feed long-form, ads placements that ask for it). Do not generate a second Reel to find that out.

Does Instagram AI info copy to Facebook automatically?

Do not assume it. Self-disclose on the Facebook post and keep the label in the file. Ads Manager can auto-apply AI info on its own tools even if the organic toggle was set on Instagram.

When is a second generate justified?

When the brief changed: new offer, new language, new SKU, a cut that cannot be edited from the master. “It is Facebook” is not a brief change.
