Put the hook on screen before the SKU

Spend the first second on the spoken line, not the logo. Burn the claim, then show the pack.

    Versely Team••7 min read

The first second is the line, not the logo. Burn the claim into frame one, then show the SKU. A pack hold, a brand sting, or a face staring at the lens is an intro. Mute autoplay will swipe before the bottle appears. Add a hook to your video is how you front an opener. The first-second hook is the object you are building: frame one plus the first line, graded by whether a cold thumb stays.

This is the order of beats, not a hook-pack billing essay and not a six-opening batch.

Write the first-second line on paper

If you cannot say the first second without naming the brand, you do not have a hook yet. You have an ident.

    On paper, before any generate:

    1. Write one sentence the mute viewer must get. Not a greeting. A reason to stay: the objection, the result, the price, the fail from Tuesday.
    2. Count it. If it needs six seconds of speech to land, it is not a first-second object. Cut it until the claim fits a burned line.
    3. Circle the nouns that will be on screen at 0:00. If the circle is a logo, rewrite.
    4. Name beat two: that is where the SKU enters. Beat two is allowed to be the pack. Beat one is not required to be.
    5. Write the words you will not claim. Legal stays out of the hook line.
    6. Lock destination: 9:16 if it ships as a Reel, TikTok, or Short.

Examples of a first-second line that is not a logo:

    • “The cleanser that did not sting this time.”
    • “I stopped rebuying the one that pillowed.”
    • “This is the $14 one, not the $42 one.”

    Examples that fail the test:

    • Brand mark on black for 12 frames.
    • “Hey guys, so I found this product…”
    • A silent pack orbit with no type.

The UGC video generator will happily render a logo-first take if you prompt one. The model does not know your hook rate. You do.

If the spoken hook is also the burned hook, write the same words twice: once as the VO, once as the overlay. They must match. A mute viewer who reads “ships tomorrow” while the unmute viewer hears “ships in twelve days” is two ads.

Put the line on screen before the pack

Picture first, then type. The SKU is later.

    Procedure for the opening file:

    1. Generate or film beat one as a face, a result, a mess, or a number — not as a hero pack. Silent Kling 3 Turbo (12 credits, audio off, 1080p) is enough when the line will be TTS or overlay. Native audio is optional if the mouth is saying that exact line.
    2. Do not put the locked product still in this prompt unless the still is the proof (a stain, a before). A catalog pack in frame one is the logo habit with extra steps.
    3. Watch the first second muted, phone-size, thumb ready. If you cannot say what the ad is about, the hook has not started.
    4. Burn the line into that first second. This is overlay if nobody said it, or captions if they did. Add captions to video transcribes speech. A headline nobody spoke is text overlay.
    5. Place the type in the safe area: off the bottom chrome, off the right rail, off the mouth.
    6. Keep the logo off this second. End cards exist. This is not one.

If you are attaching a catalog opener from the Hooks studio, the same test applies. list_hooks / get_hook / create_hook_pack front a clip. If that clip is a reaction face with no claim, you still owe a burned line. A smash cut to a face that has not said anything yet is cold and empty.

Do not “save the claim for the reveal.” The reveal is beat two. Beat one has to work as a still-plus-type poster that happens to start moving.

Attach the SKU as beat two

The pack is the proof, not the greeting.

    Procedure:

    1. Lock one product still. Crop it to the shipping ratio.
    2. Generate beat two as image-to-video from that still, or cut to a filmed insert. Hands may change. The bottle may not.
    3. Join beat one to beat two. Merge videos if they are two files. A hard cut is allowed. A logo dissolve is not a hook.
    4. Make sure the burned line from beat one has either finished or still reads honestly over the pack. Do not leave “this stung” on screen over a smiling beauty hero unless that is the joke you meant.
    5. If the SKU name must appear, put it on beat two as overlay or as the label in the still. Do not spend frame one on the wordmark.

    Three-beat UGC that actually ships:

    • 0:00–0:01 — face or result + burned claim.
    • 0:01–0:04 — demo on the locked pack.
    • last second — CTA. URL, offer, or “link in bio” as overlay, not as a spoken paragraph.

If you generated hook, demo, and CTA as one prompt, you asked one take for three verbs. Split them. Merge later. This page is only the rule that the hook file is not the SKU file.

Watch the join muted. If beat two is the first time a stranger knows what you sell, that is correct. If beat two is the first time they know why they should care, beat one failed.

Mute QC, then finish the file

The test is a phone, volume down, first second only. Then the rest.

    Checklist:

    1. Pause on frame one. Is the claim readable as a poster. Logo-only fails.
    2. Play 0:00–0:01 muted. Can you repeat the line. If not, cut words or hold the type longer.
    3. Play 0:01–0:03. Does the SKU enter as proof, not as a second intro.
    4. Sound on. Does the VO match the burn. If you “tightened” the caption into a different claim, you now have two scripts.
    5. Legal, price qualification, and any Article 50 mark sit off the hook line. They are overlays you wrote, usually later in the file.
    6. Caption the locked timeline last if there is speech. Do not recaption after you decide to swap the opener.

If frame one still looks like a brand film, delete the first 12–24 frames and start on the line. Trimming a logo hold is cheaper than regenerating. If the whole take is a pack orbit, that take is B-roll. Generate a hook file and put it in front.

Front the opener, burn the line, then show the pack in Versely. Bring the sentence, not the wordmark.

    FAQ

Can the SKU be in the first second if it is doing the thing?

Yes, if the pack is the proof — a pour, a stain lifting, a click — and the claim is burned on that picture. A static hero pack with a logo is not that.

Is a talking head enough without type?

Not in mute autoplay. If the first line is only in the voice, the thumb has already moved. Burn the claim.

Should I use a hook-pack instead of writing one line?

A hook pack is several distinct opens against one body. Each open still needs a first-second claim. Six logo stings are not a pack.
