Image Resizer in the browser is not a generate
/free-tools/image-resizer never spends a credit. Do not pay a model to do an in-browser file job.
/free-tools/image-resizer never spends a credit. Do not pay a model to do an in-browser file job. Exact pixels, a platform preset, cover or stretch — that is Canvas and the File API on your machine. It is not a model, not an upload, and not a line on what it costs.
Versely has no free generation tier. Every generate costs credits. The resizer is free because it never touches a model. Confusing those two is how a 1080×1920 crop becomes a bill.
Resize is a file job
The tool reads the image you choose into memory, draws it to a canvas at the width and height you set, and hands you a download. Nothing is sent to a server. It keeps working with the network off. That is the same guarantee as the rest of the free tools surface: no upload, no account, no watermark, nothing stored after you close the tab.
Set an exact width and height, or pick a preset for where the file is going. The presets are the sizes those platforms actually serve, not rounded guesses: TikTok / Reels / Shorts and Stories at 1080×1920, Pinterest pin at 1000×1500, Instagram square 1080×1080, Instagram portrait 4:5 at 1080×1350, YouTube thumbnail 1280×720, a 1080p frame at 1920×1080, a 4K frame at 3840×2160, X / LinkedIn at 1200×675.
Scaling down is safe. Scaling up cannot invent detail that was never captured. The browser interpolates between existing pixels. A 500px still blown to 2000px will look soft. That softness is not a reason to open a video model. It is a reason to decide whether you needed a bigger source, or an upscaler.
Cover is not stretch
Cover keeps the original proportions and crops whatever does not fit the target box. Stretch forces the image into the box and distorts it whenever the ratios differ. Cover is almost always the preset you want. Stretch is how a pack shot becomes a wide bottle.
JPEG has no alpha. Transparent pixels fill white on convert-adjacent paths so they do not encode as black — the usual surprise when a logo PNG is flattened. The resizer is still a geometry tool. It does not redesign the still.
None of this is billed. The /cost hub is the map of credit formulas: per second, per thousand characters, per megapixel, per job. Resize is not on that map because the arithmetic never runs on our hardware. A generate that "also happens to come out 1080×1920" is a generate. You already paid for motion or invention. You did not need to pay for the box.
When the job is actually a generate
You need a model when you need new pixels, not fewer of the old ones.
- Texture at 4K from a small still. That is an upscaler. Clarity Crystal Upscaler is an edit-image row: image required, 4K ceiling, 4 credits, fine texture regenerated rather than stretched. The Clarity Crystal note is the router. Dragging a corner in the resizer is the stretch Crystal exists to replace.
- A different composition. Crop and cover can drop edges. They cannot restage the product. That is an edit or a new still.
- Motion. Image-to-video meters credits per second of output. Resize does not make the still move.
If the still is the wrong shot, enlarging it is an expensive way to keep the wrong shot — and a free enlarge is still the wrong shot, just bigger. Fix the still, then resize for the slot.
Do not launder a crop through a model
The failure mode is "I need it 1080×1920, so I will generate it at that size." You will get a cousin of the still. Labels drift. Faces drift. You will have spent a credit formula from the cost hub on a job the canvas already does.
Use the resizer when you already like the pixels and only the box is wrong. Use a generate when you do not have the pixels. Honesty about the input is the whole decision. The free-tools index is fifty-three of these jobs. Credits are for the ones that invent.
FAQ
Does the image resizer use credits if I am logged in?
No. It never spends a credit. There is no account on the tool, and logging into Versely elsewhere does not meter a canvas draw. Generation is the thing that quotes a cost before you confirm.
Will resizing make the image sharper?
Scaling down usually looks crisper at the display size. Scaling up cannot add captured detail. If you need genuine detail added rather than stretched, that is an upscaling model, not this page.
Is cover the same as generating a 9:16 crop?
No. Cover is a crop of your file. A 9:16 generate is a new picture. Use cover when the still is already right. Use a generate when you need a different still.
Why is this free if Versely has no free generation tier?
Because it is not generation. Free tools run on your device; they cost nothing to run. /cost is the catalogue of jobs that do cost credits. Do not mix the two to "save" a crop.
