PowerPoint Media Extractor in the browser is not a generate

PowerPoint Media Extractor never spends a credit. Do not pay a model to do an in-browser file job.

The pictures, clips, and audio in a .pptx are already in the file. A .pptx is a ZIP. Embedded media lives under ppt/media/ at the resolution someone dropped in, not at the postage-stamp size on the slide. This tool unpacks that folder in your browser, lists the assets, and lets you download them one by one or as a ZIP. Nothing is uploaded. No account. No model.

Versely generation has no free tier. Credits are the meter. What it costs is the map of those meters — per second, per thousand characters, per export. Extracting a PNG that is already in the deck is not on that map, because it is not a generate.

The pictures are already in the file

Scaling a photo on a slide changes display size. The original stays embedded. That is why the extractor often returns files larger and sharper than the deck suggests. PowerPoint's stored names are usually image1.png, media2.mp4, and so on. Identify them by looking at the thumbnails, not by hoping the original filenames survived.

Limits are stated before you pick a file: 200 MB and 300 slides. A .ppt is the old binary format. It is not a ZIP, and this path cannot read it. Re-save as .pptx from PowerPoint or Keynote.

What this will not do, on purpose: render a slide to an image. That needs a DrawingML layout engine — themes, masters, fonts. Faking a screenshot of the slide would look like the deck without being the deck. The tool pulls media. It does not rasterize layouts.

PPTX to text is the sibling for words. Different ZIP parts. Still not a generate.

A generate will invent a worse copy

The failure mode is sending the deck, or a screenshot of a slide, to an image model with "extract the photos." You will get new pictures. They will be the model's guess at a stock photo that looked a bit like your product shot. You will have spent credits. You will still not have the original file.

Same mistake, video flavour: asking a video model to "recreate the slide animation." You wanted media2.mp4 out of the package. You paid for a hallucinated motion graphic.

If the slide only shows a picture of text — a screenshot, a chart exported as pixels — that asset is an image in ppt/media/. The extractor will give you that image. It will not OCR it. Text-from-image is a different job, and it is still not "run Veo on the deck."

Credits start after extraction

Pull the originals first. Then decide whether you still need a model:

• Clean or extend a still → an image row, quoted in credits before you confirm.
• Animate a pack shot you just recovered → image-to-video.
• Caption a clip that was already in the deck → an editor pass, not a generate of the clip.

Cost is for those later jobs. The extractor is free because it costs nothing to run: Canvas and the File API on your machine, network off if you want. That is the same rule as the rest of /free-tools. A "free" generate would either contradict pricing or spend margin on anonymous traffic. This is not that. It is a ZIP listing.

Do not start a credit-burning pipeline to recover files you already possess.

Is the extractor actually free?

Yes. No account, no limit that is a monetization trick. The work never leaves the tab. Generation on Versely does cost credits; this is not generation.

Will the images match the size they appear on the slide?

No. You get the embedded originals. Display size on the slide is a scale. The file in ppt/media/ is the source.

Can it read an old .ppt?

No. Re-save as .pptx. The older format is not an Open Packaging ZIP, so there is no ppt/media/ to open.

Should I upload the deck to a model to "clean up" the photos as I extract?

Extract first, locally. If a photo actually needs an edit, send that file to an image model and pay the quoted credits. Sending the whole deck as a prompt is how you replace originals with invented ones.
