Caption numbers must match the PDP

Prices, percents and SKUs in the burn have to match the product page the ad opens. ASR is a draft. The PDP is source of truth.

Caption numbers must match the PDP. Prices, percents, SKUs, dosages, “ships in 12 days” — the mute viewer will screenshot the type and compare it to the page the ad opened. ASR will invent a neighbour. The product page is source of truth. Burn after the digits match. This is not a model page. It is the offer.

The PDP is the number the ad has to honour

A product detail page is the contract: the price you will charge, the percent off, the size, the SKU, the delivery claim. Paid social, shop rows, and organic “link in bio” all dump a person onto that contract. If the burned caption said $19 and the PDP says $21, you did not have a style error. You had an ad that lies in the only language a muted scroller reads.

ASR is good at common words. It is bad at the strings commerce cares about. “Fifteen ninety-nine,” “fifty percent,” “XJ-240,” “twelve days,” a lot number. Digit errors are business errors. A muted UGC ad with the wrong price is the wrong ad. Comments will not save you. Ads Manager will not either.

ASR misses names and numbers is the general pass: people, places, SKUs, prices, legal words. This page is narrower. The landing page wins. If the talent said a stale price, you still do not burn the stale price. You fix the audio or you withhold the digit from the caption and put the live price in an overlay you control. You do not typeset a number the PDP will contradict.

    Three surfaces, one number:

    • Spoken line (native audio, VO, lipsync)
    • Burned caption
    • PDP (and the legal overlay, if any)

If those three disagree, the screenshot is the caption versus the page. The mouth is not in the screenshot.

Currency, format, and locale are part of the match. $15.99 versus 15,99 € versus “fifteen ninety-nine” as words. Match the PDP’s convention, not the ASR’s. A US storefront with a UK-style comma is a different product in some heads. Do not “fix” a number by writing it in words if the page shows digits, unless you meant to.

What ASR does to commerce strings

The miss is fluent. The first thirty seconds look like English. The error is the offer.

Prices. Homophones, dropped cents, doubled digits. “$49” becomes “forty nine” or “$4.90” or “$490.” On mute, the caption is the price.

Percents. “Fifty percent off” versus “15% off” versus “save 50.” The PDP’s badge is the source. If the campaign is 20% this week, last week’s 30% in the take is a recut, not a caption you leave.

SKUs and model strings. Alphanumeric tokens are where the listen improvises. “XJ-240,” “Pro 4K,” a shade name. If the box is in the frame, the box is source of truth if it matches the PDP. If the generate melted the label, the PDP still wins, and you should not be selling that pack shot.

Quantities and time. “Two-pack,” “12-week course,” “ships in 12 days.” These are claims. They belong in the same pass as price.

Phone numbers and dates. Less often on a PDP, still fatal in a caption. A wrong booking number is a support queue.

None of this is fixed by switching BASIC to DYNAMIC. 2× animation does not spell. None of it is fixed by Snap. Karaoke on a wrong price is a highlighted wrong price. 165 language codes pick the listen. They do not certify the SKU. Glass on a busy plate can also hide the digit; that is a contrast problem on another page. Here the digit can be perfectly visible and still wrong.

Promo stacks make this worse. “20% off” on the PDP, “extra 10% with code” in the caption, strikethrough on the pack. Mute viewers add them incorrectly. One number in type. The rest on the page.

Copy the list from the page, then search the transcript

Do not watch through and hope you notice. Build the list from the PDP before you caption:

    • Price as shown (currency, cents, sale versus list)
    • Percent or amount off, if any
    • SKU / model / size / colour name
    • Delivery or subscription claim the ad will repeat
    • Anything a regulator or a buyer will screenshot

Then transcribe. Then search the transcript for each item. Then fix the cue. Then burn.

If the talent said the right number, keep the ASR when it matches and correct it when it does not. If the talent said the wrong number, you have an audio problem. Options:

    1. Recut or retake so the mouth matches the PDP.
    2. Lipsync a corrected line, then caption after the mouth pass.
    3. Drop the spoken number from the caption (tightening filler is allowed; contradicting the mouth is not) and burn an authored overlay with the PDP number — only if the mouth is no longer saying the stale digit, or you accept the unmute contradiction and have a lawyer who does too.

Option 3 on a paid cut is usually unacceptable. Recut.

Add captions to a video will burn whatever transcript it has. The AI caption generator is the same engine. 21 BASIC at 1×, 9 DYNAMIC at 2×. Neither tier is a price check. You are the price check.

Paid: the price in the caption must match the price in the legal overlay and the landing page. Organic: the same, because the bio link is still a PDP. Shop rows and Spark-style tags add a fourth surface. Four is not permission to let ASR pick a fifth.

Burn after the digits are green

    Order:

    1. Lock the PDP for this flight. If merchandising will change the price at midnight, do not burn a week of ads against today’s badge without a plan to recaption.
    2. Lock the picture and the audio to that offer.
    3. Transcribe. Search the list. Fix.
    4. Preview style on the first seconds. Read every digit on the whole file. Those are different QCs. Teams reverse them: they fall in love with a preset on a wrong SKU.
    5. Burn. Export the MP4. Pixels do not ripple when the PDP changes. A sale that ends is a recaption and a re-upload, not a caption-toggle.

Sidecar SRT on YouTube long-form can be patched in Studio. Short-form cannot. The pass is cheaper than the recaption, and the recaption is cheaper than a paid comment thread explaining that the audio was right.

If the take has no speech, do not run the captioner to “see if it caught the price.” There was no listen. Author the overlay from the PDP. A language code on silence is a spend on empty audio.

Caption numbers must match the PDP. ASR is a draft. The page is the offer. Then you burn.

    FAQ

What if the talent said a price the PDP no longer shows?

Do not burn the spoken stale price. Recut, lipsync a corrected line, or stop the flight. Mute viewers will hold you to the caption versus the page.

Does a cleaner mic fix SKU errors?

It helps common words. Alphanumeric SKUs still get invented. Copy the string from the PDP and search the transcript. The box in the frame is only truth if it matches that page.

Should the caption use words or digits?

Match the PDP. If the page shows $15.99, do not typeset “fifteen ninety-nine” as a style choice. Consistency with the page is part of accuracy.
