PDF page organiser is a keep-list, not a delete command

The organiser keeps the pages you name, in the order you name them: 3, 1, 2 makes original page three first; a page that does not exist is ignored, and an empty selection refuses to write a blank file.

PDF Page Organiser is a keep-list. One range does extraction, deletion, and reordering at once: whatever you list is what you get, in the order you list it. There is no “delete 4” control. To drop a page, omit it. The label on the field is “Pages to keep.” That is the whole product constraint.

Keep is the verb

The field takes a range like 1-3, 7, 12-14. Ranges and single pages mix freely. 3, 1, 2 produces a document whose first page is the original page three. That is reorder, not a second extract. Clicking thumbnails is the same list in recognition form: click pages to keep. The text field stays in sync, because a range is still faster on a 200-page file.

Blank means all. Leave the range empty, or click nothing, and every page is kept, in original order. That is not an empty selection. That is an unfiltered keep. The output file is still a new document — pages.pdf — built by copying the named pages into a fresh PDF, not by patching the original in place.

Thumbnails render the first 60 pages so you can see what you are naming. The tool still acts on the whole document. Pages past 60 belong in the range field. A 200-page deck is not a 60-page deck just because the strip stopped.

Do not paste the file into a video or image model and ask it to “keep the product slides.” You will spend a clip rate to invent a visualisation of a document. You will not get page three as page one. The keep-list already did that.

Missing pages and empty lists

A page number that does not exist is ignored rather than treated as an error. A range that overshoots the end of the document simply stops there. 1-3, 99 on a 10-page file keeps pages 1, 2, and 3. 99 alone keeps nothing.

If the range selects nothing at all, the tool tells you instead of producing an empty file. The message is the constraint: “That range selects no pages. Use a format like 1-3, 7, 12-14.” That is the empty selection. It refuses to write a blank PDF. Do not treat that refusal as a bug. A zero-page file is not an organised document.

Those two behaviours are easy to mix up:

• Named page missing — ignored. The rest of the list still writes.
• List names no existing page — refused. Nothing is written.

Blank is a third case: keep all. Clicking “Clear” empties the field and, on run with a blank range, keeps every page. If you meant “write nothing,” you do not have that command. You have a keep-list.

Password-protected or unusual generators can fail in the tab with an error you can read. That is a file problem, not a credit problem. There is nothing to retry on a GPU.

Rebuilding through this organiser drops most document-level metadata as a side effect, because the output is a new document rather than a modified copy of the original. Split and merge are different objects

Split PDF cuts one document into fixed-size parts. The control is “pages per file,” an integer, minimum 1. Set it to 1 to get every page as its own PDF. Download the parts individually or as a ZIP. That is even chunks, not a keep-list. It is the wrong tool if you needed pages 1–3, 7, and 12–14 as one file in that order. Fonts and embedded resources are duplicated into every part that references them. A 20-page document split into 20 files can total far more than the original. That is normal.

Merge PDF concatenates several PDFs into one document. Page order follows the order you select the files. Pages are copied intact — text stays selectable, vectors stay vectors, nothing is re-rendered or recompressed. Document-level structures are the honest caveat: outlines, form field data, and annotations may not survive a merge. If a PDF has fillable fields whose values matter, flatten it before merging. Merge does not reorder pages inside a file. Organise does.

Use the three in sequence when the job is actually three jobs: split a 200-page dump into review chunks, keep a named subset from one chunk, merge the kept files with a cover sheet. Do not ask one range to bind two files. Do not ask pages-per-file to put page 12 before page 3.
