Playfair is the editorial serif for title cards

/fonts/playfair is Luxury & Editorial. Headline's default face is Bebas (stacked sans). If the card needs a serif masthead, load Playfair in the overlay instead of hoping Bebas looks expensive.

Playfair Display is a caption and overlay face in the font registry: category serif, preview string Luxury & Editorial. It is not a text-to-image model. It is not Ideogram. Asking a generate to "set the title in an editorial serif" paints letters into pixels you cannot edit. Loading Playfair on a locked opening is typesetting.

Headline is Bebas. That is not a masthead.

Headline is the base preset in the Headline group: kind subtitle, fontId bebas, white fill, black outline width 1, position top. The label is Headline. The description is tall condensed caps up top — title-card energy. The group lives at /caption-styles/group/headline: top, bottom, yellow, red stroke, and centered variants, all still Bebas.

Bebas Neue is the stacked-sans register: ALL CAPS HEADLINES, no lowercase, poster energy. It looks like a shout. That is the correct default when the row is a fitness hook, a streetwear drop, or a sports title that should read as condensed caps. It is the wrong default when the card is a jewellery lookbook, a wedding film, or an interiors reel that is supposed to feel printed.

Hoping Bebas "reads expensive" is how a luxury open still looks like a gym story. Condensed caps do not become a masthead because you lowered the tracking in a prompt. Change the face.

Playfair is the overlay serif, not a generate

/fonts/playfair is the live preview for that face on video. High-contrast display serif. Fashion-magazine DNA. The luxury signal in the set. Hairline strokes vanish at small caption sizes — title cards and one-line overlays at a large size, never running subtitles. If the job is word-timed speech, stay on a subtitle family. If the job is a masthead on a locked open, Playfair is the face you pick when you call the font list.

Add a title card to a video is the job. There is no separate title-card engine. It is add_video_captions used on purpose: a centered line, a background block, a headline that reads as an intro rather than a caption. The tool's own description lists headline and branded-label use cases. Billing is the same family as any overlay render. It is a static composite, not a motion-graphics pack.

Order: lock the opening shot and the crop; write a few words, not a sentence; set position to center if it is a card; add the background block so the serifs survive busy footage; choose Playfair instead of the Headline default. Safe zone follows the crop. Card after 9:16 if 9:16 is the destination. A centered block that was fine on 16:9 can collide with chrome after a reframe.

Do not generate a 12-second miss, card it, then trim. Trim the keeper opening, then card. Printing Playfair on a take you will regen is a masthead on a door you will replace.

Bebas at the top is a caption preset. A card is a construction.

Headline at the top is a subtitle-shaped preset: one family, one position, burned as captions energy. Use it when the line is a persistent hook sitting on talking or motion footage and you want stacked sans.

A title card is a different construction on the same overlay tool. Center, block, short string, face chosen for the open. Playfair on that construction is the editorial masthead. Bebas on that construction is still a shout, just centered.

Add a text overlay burns one authored line for the whole clip — hook, headline, CTA — at top, center, or bottom. It does not transcribe. If you needed chapter marks that appear and leave, timed overlays are the other named job. If you needed the actual speech, that is captions, not Playfair.

Do not:

• Prompt Ideogram or any image row for "an editorial title card in Playfair."
• Ask a video model to typeset the masthead in-frame.
• Pair Playfair as running subtitles under a talking take. The hairlines will shimmer and vanish.

The registry face is the overlay. The generate is the picture underneath.

Pick the face for the card, not the vibe of the generate

If the open is already a luxury still, Bebas on top fights it. If the open is a gym floor, Playfair on top is costume. The font does not upgrade the plate. It labels the plate you already locked.

Call the font list. Load Playfair. Set the card. Leave Headline for the rows that should stay condensed caps. A brand kit can store the choice so the next open does not fall back to Bebas because someone liked the preset thumbnail.

Can I keep the Headline preset and just "make it look expensive"?

No. Headline is stacked sans. Expensive, here, is a serif masthead. Change the face to Playfair on the title-card overlay. Bebas has no lowercase and will not become editorial because you added a background block.

Should Playfair run under spoken captions?

No. Hairlines fail at subtitle size. Use Playfair for title cards and large one-line overlays. Running speech belongs on a subtitle family, not this display serif.

Is a title card a different tool from a text overlay?
