A full edit_video export is a delivery pass, not a taste pass
edit_video can stitch, mix, overlay, and caption in one call. A charged export of unlocked clips, or a stacked finish before picture lock, bundles every leak into one receipt.
edit_video is the flagship EDL: stitch clips, transitions, text, music, VO, PiP, captions, aspect ratio — one call instead of chaining cut_video, attach_audio_to_video, and a caption tool. The tool description prefers it when you want a multi-clip assembly in a single step. preview:true is free 480p with a cooldown. preview:false (the default) charges editor_export once for the whole stack, regardless of how many features you piled in. That is a delivery price. It is a terrible taste price.
Edit a video with music and captions in one pass is the job. Clips must be HTTPS URLs. A 402-style error means you needed check_credits first. The AI video generator still has to give you keepers to list.
Preview is the iteration. Export is the ship.
Iterate with preview:true on an assembly of keepers. If clip two is still a maybe, you do not have an EDL. You have a mood board that bills a cooldown, and then a final when someone gets impatient. DYNAMIC captions inside that final double the caption meter on a timeline you will recut.
People stack everything because the agent can. Capability is not sequence. Generate until the clips survive review. Then describe the full edit. Then preview. Then export.
If you only needed a trim, use cut_video. If you only needed a bed, attach. The big tool is for the real join.
Order
- Sign every incoming clip.
- Describe the assembly. Preview at 480p.
- Fix the EDL, not the taste of clip three. If clip three is wrong, leave the editor and regen.
- Export once. Publish.
estimate_cost before the charged render. The stack is the point of the tool and the reason not to run it first.
FAQ
Can I use edit_video as my generate button?
No. It assembles URLs you already have. Generation is a different catalog. Assembling misses is still assembling misses.
Why is the final one price if I added captions and music?
Because it is one export. That is convenient on a keeper and a bundled leak on a draft. Do not take "one price" as "cheap enough to reroll."
Should I caption in this call or after?
In the call, after the clips are keepers, if you want one file. After a separate caption pass if you need VEED style control that the EDL will not give you. Either way, not on unlocked clips.
What are preview_notes for?
They tell you what the agent thought it did. Read them on the keeper preview. They are not a substitute for watching.
