Stitch scenes after each clip is a keeper, not as a way to hide misses

merge_movie_scenes is the tool people mean by "merge my videos": a list of clips in, one file out, transitions and audio as first-class settings for the whole join. It was built for stitching generated movie scenes. It works on any set of clips. It does not make a bad scene good by putting it between two others. A merge of misses is a longer miss with crossfades.

Merge multiple videos into one is the job. Standard merge billing. estimate_cost before a long list. Mixed photos-plus-video, or per-clip trims as part of the join, is compose_video_with_overlay. Transition style is once for the whole merge, not per seam.

Assembly is downstream of selection

The first step is still: which clips survive. Generate scene one until it is scene one. Same for two and three. Then merge. Teams merge first to "see the film." They see a temp film, attach to the temp, and resist regenerating scene two because the crossfade was nice. Nice is not lock.

Keep the sources. A merge is a child. Caption, score, and crop the child after the stitch, or you will time type to a timeline that will change when scene two is replaced.

Order

1. Lock each incoming clip (or accept a named temp knowing you will remake the merge).
2. Merge with the transition you meant.
3. Finish type and music on the result if they were not already in the clips (they should wait).

FAQ

Can I merge, then replace the middle clip without remaking the join?

Not inside this tool. You merge again with the new middle. That is cheap if you did not already burn captions on the old merge. Another reason to merge late.

Should each scene be captioned first?

No. Caption the film, or you will have three styles and three clocks. Captions on the child.

Is a merge a reason to skip picture lock per scene?

Opposite. Lock per scene is what makes a merge cheap to redo. Unlocked scenes make every remake expensive.

Whole clips only?

Yes. If you needed seconds 5–10 of clip B, trim or compose. Do not merge full files and punch later unless the full files were keepers and the punch is a known flub.
