    Two-pass. Caption the keeper only.

Indie-hacker video fails in the opposite direction from a brand film: you generate the launch clip on the expensive row, miss, and then you cannot afford the retry. Hailuo 2.3 Fast exists so the misses are cheap. The keeper is a second row. Captioning the pile is how a cheap tier becomes an expensive one.

Hailuo 2.3 Fast is MiniMax Hailuo 2.3 image-to-video: a single still in, a short cinematic clip out. Durations are 6s or 10s. Catalog list is 28 credits; the live discount on the row is 50 percent (14 for 6s, 28 for 10s). requires_image is true. audio is empty. There is no resolution chip on the slug. You are buying a feed-tier motion pass to see whether the idea works.

    Fast is for the misses

Lock a still first — the landing-page hero, the product screenshot, the icon on a real phone. Lock the still before you spend on motion is the credit argument. Fast will not discover the UI. It will move whatever you uploaded.

Prompt only the camera: a slow push, a cursor, light on the bezel. Do not prompt a talking founder into a silent I2V row. Do not write the pricing string into the pixels. Fine texture under motion is already where Fast softens; a watch macro is the wrong brief here. A product UI and a simple object are the right brief.

Six seconds is enough to know the prompt. Ten seconds is the other bucket on the same meter, not a better idea. A 7-second clip on a tiered model is the cost shape: Hailuo Fast bills 6s and 10s as steps, so a 7-second need still buys the 10-second tier. Fit the idea to the bucket. Do not "need 7" and pay 10 by accident.

The switcher if you are leaving MiniMax's consumer app is a Hailuo alternative: draft on Fast, promote the keeper, same credit balance.

Promote one keeper. Caption none of the rest.

Pick one. The rest were research. Re-render only that still-and-prompt on the job's real row:

    • MiniMax H3 when the next step is a 2K grade plate
    • Veo 3.1 when the keeper has to talk
    • Seedance 2.5 when a locked still has to hold
    • Hailuo 2.3 Standard or Pro if the Fast look was already enough

Do not open a second app for the promotion. One bill is the point of a multi-model account. Fast plus a new Hailuo membership plus a Veo tab is how the two-pass dies.

Add captions to a video transcribes speech and burns a preset. Run it on the keeper. Captioning the misses is a second meter on files you will delete. Fast usually has no native audio — plan a score or a TTS pass after picture lock, or promote to a talking row if we see the mouth. Native audio versus TTS is that fork. Do not lay a voice on a closed Fast face and ship it.

When Fast is the wrong first pass

Skip Fast when the brief is native dialogue in frame, or a pack shot that must match an approved still at grade. Start on Veo or Seedance. Fast is for ideas, not for identity contracts.

The Fast-versus-Standard routing table is already Hailuo 2.3 Fast vs Standard. This page is only the indie two-pass: burn cheap takes, keep one, caption that one.

The AI image-to-video tool is the door. Attach the still. Pick Fast. Stop.

    FAQ

Should every Fast draft get captions?

No. Caption the keeper. Captioning the misses is how a cheap tier becomes an expensive one.

    Is Hailuo 2.3 Fast text-to-video?

Not on this slug. Category is image-to-video. requires_image is true. Approve a still, then move it. A paragraph with no still is a different row.

Can I finish on Fast if the Fast look is already the post?

Yes. Standard and Pro exist when the Fast plate is not enough. H3 exists when you will grade. Do not promote out of anxiety. Promote because you can name the job Fast cannot do.

Why not generate the launch clip on Veo from take one?

Because most takes are misses. Veo is the keeper row for talk. Fast is the research row. The two-pass only works when both tiers share a bill.
