Paste a link, get the footage in the editor
Paste a TikTok, Instagram or X link in the Media tab. Preview is free, Import is 1 credit and refunded on failure, then recut the clip in the editor.
Paste a TikTok, Instagram or X post link in the Media tab of the web video editor. You get a free preview card. Press Import. That costs 1 credit, and the credit is refunded if the pull fails. The file lands in your library next to uploads and generations. Drag it onto the timeline and recut it like any other clip.
That is social import. It is not the paste box on the versely.studio homepage. The homepage paste analyzes a viral video or post. The Media tab paste fetches the file so you can edit it.
YouTube watch URLs usually cannot be imported. There is no downloadable file. The editor says so before you spend the credit.
Paste the URL in the Media tab
Open the video editor at app.versely.studio/video-editor. On a wide screen the editor agent is already open beside the timeline. You do not need the agent for the paste. You need the Media tab.
- Sign in on the same account you use on the Android app.
- Open the Media tab.
- Paste a TikTok, Instagram or X post URL into the paste field.
- Wait for the preview card. The card is free. It shows the post the editor resolved — account, still, duration — before any credit moves.
- Press Import. 1 credit.
- If the pull fails, the credit comes back. Do not mash Import on the same dead URL.
The clip then sits with the rest of your library. Uploads, generations and music already show as strips in the Image, Video and Audio tabs. An imported post is another Video strip. Drag that strip onto the timeline.
The Brand Kit panel is next to this, not instead of it. It applies your fonts and colours to the project. It does not fetch the post. Set the kit when you care about type on the recut; the brand kit as a style guide is that setup. Import still works with an empty kit.
Do not paste the URL into the agent composer and expect a file. The agent will take a plain-language edit once the clip is on the timeline. The fetch is the paste field in Media.
Phone is the same account. The long recut is a web job. Use the Android app to make and post from wherever you are. iOS is coming soon.
Preview is free. Import is one credit.
The preview card exists so you do not spend a credit on a mystery file. Read it. Confirm it is the post you meant: the right account, a video rather than a still, not a carousel you thought was a Reel.
Then Import. One credit, on every plan. Social import is not a Pro toggle.
If the import fails, the credit is refunded. Failures are ordinary: a private post, a region lock, a profile URL instead of a post URL, a YouTube watch link. The refund is automatic. You do not open a ticket for 1 credit.
The rest of the editor follows the same credit rule. Free edits land instantly — trim, split, reorder, speed, a hook title, "What's on my timeline?". Anything that spends credits is shown as a plan and waits for your OK. Import is a paid action. Treat the preview as the moment you still have not spent.
| Link you paste | What you get |
|---|---|
| TikTok post | Free preview card, then Import for 1 credit |
| Instagram post or Reel | Free preview card, then Import for 1 credit |
| X post | Free preview card, then Import for 1 credit |
| YouTube | Usually refused up front. No downloadable file. |
Facebook and LinkedIn are not in this paste field. Those belong to Trend Analyzer if you want a breakdown, not a file. Do not paste ten links "just in case." Preview the one you will recut. Import that one.
YouTube is the one that usually fails
YouTube links usually cannot be imported. Most YouTube URLs have no downloadable file the importer can fetch, and the UI says so clearly. Stop there. Do not press Import to see what happens.
If the clip is yours, export it from YouTube Studio and upload the file into the same library. Uploads already appear as strips in the Video tab. That path is an upload, not the 1-credit import.
If the clip is not yours, do not hunt for a downloader. Import is not a YouTube ripper with extra steps. Paste the Short into Trend Analyzer when you need the structure — viral score, a timestamped hook / cuts / payoff, on-screen text, a shot list. That analysis is 1 credit and needs an account. Rebuild the format with footage you have the right to use.
Treat YouTube as upload-your-own or analyze-don't-import.
Recut it. Do not republish the file.
The point of the import is a new cut, not a second upload of the same MP4. Drop the strip on the timeline. On a wide screen the agent is already beside it. Type what you want in plain words, or use the one-click automations:
- Auto-edit for TikTok — vertical 9:16, a hook title over the open, dead air cut. Free, so it lands without a confirm.
- Caption the whole cut — burned-in subtitles across every clip. Costs credits. You see the plan first.
- Score it with music — a generated music bed under the cut, ducked for voice. Costs credits. Waits for OK.
- Balance the audio — voice up front, music under it.
- What's on my timeline? — a plain-words rundown of the project. Run it after a messy paste so you know what you actually pulled.
Three recuts are the usual reason to import at all.
Re-caption. Platform captions are not your captions, and they will not survive a crop. Burn a style you control. Transcribe and caption my video is the named job; the walkthrough is caption the cut in the agent. Preview a style on the first few seconds of this file. Lock picture before you burn. The cut needs audible speech. Basic presets bill 1×. Dynamic presets (Glass is the default) bill 2× for the same transcription. Output is an MP4 with the captions in the frames. Trim first, caption second.
Re-cut for another platform. A TikTok you imported is already 9:16. A landscape talking-head you posted on X is not. Resize a video for TikTok or tell the agent to run Auto-edit for TikTok. Trim a video if the original overstayed the hook. Do not caption, then trim; the burn follows the old clock.
Remix with the agent. Split the imported clip. Generate a still or a B-roll from a prompt in Generate media. Drop it between beats. Add a hook overlay. Swap the bed. The capability groups on the agent are Cut & arrange, Text & captions, Audio & music, Generate media, Canvas & brand, Finish & export. Stay inside those. You are not starting a new project in another tool.
When the recut is actually different, post or schedule it. Editing a caption later, or dragging a slot on the week-grid, does not charge you again.
If you wanted the format of a post you do not own, do not import it. Recreate a viral template from the analysis shot list, with footage that is yours.
Remix your own posts, or posts you may use
Import fetches a file. It does not grant a right.
Use this on:
- Posts you published.
- Client work you are contracted to recut.
- Footage a collaborator handed you with permission to edit.
Do not use this as a way to lift someone else's post, recaption it, and put it on your account. The shot list from an analysis is the legitimate remix path for a format you do not own: you take the structure, not the pixels.
Watermarks from the source app are a tell. If the imported clip still has a TikTok bug in the corner, you are about to publish someone else's distribution artifact. Crop or recut until that is gone, and only if you had the right to the picture underneath.
Private posts, paid communities, and downloads you could not save from the native app are not a grey area. If the preview card loads and you still would not be comfortable putting the source URL next to the recut, do not press Import.
Agencies: the client's own posts are in-bounds. A competitor's Reel is not, even if the recut would look "transformative" in a deck. This button is a fetch.
Open the editor with a post you already made
Three actions, in order.
- Open the video editor, go to the Media tab, and paste the URL of a post you published on TikTok, Instagram or X. Read the free preview card. Press Import.
- Drop the clip on the timeline. Ask What's on my timeline?, then either Auto-edit for TikTok or a trim. Caption only after the picture is locked.
- Watch the recut on mute, on a phone. If it still looks like the original with new type, keep cutting. Then schedule it.
If the first paste is a YouTube link, stop. Upload your own file, or analyze the structure. Do not spend the credit to confirm what the editor already told you.
