UGC for local services is the job site
Local-services UGC is the actual job site. A generated storefront is a catalog render, and customers notice.
UGC for local services is the job site. A driveway, a crawl space, a van door, a permit in a window, a lawn that is actually that lawn. A generated storefront on a street that is not yours is a catalog render. Customers who live three blocks away will notice.
UGC here is trades and local operators: HVAC, plumbing, roofing, landscaping, cleaning, locksmiths, mobile mechanics. Ads with UGC still show about 4× click-through and about 50% lower CPC, and 86% of brands say UGC lifts ad performance (Kapwing 2026; Billo). 92% of consumers trust a peer over a brand message in the same stack. A peer in this category has seen the work, or is the neighbour who had the work done. A CGI shopfront is not a neighbour.
This page is category craft. It is not a locksmith-specific ad recipe, and it is not a licence to invent a customer on a porch.
The job site is the product
Product-in-hand for a service is the job. Before, during, after — of the work, not of a generated family on a sofa. If the first three seconds are a talking head in a studio and the van never appears, you have not started.
Film the mechanical facts:
- The place. House number optional; street character required. A real facade, a real truck, a real weather. Do not generate a prettier street.
- The work. A cut, a flush, a filter in a hand, a strip of tape, a mower deck. One job per clip.
- The after of the work. Dry floor, seated door, mulch edge. Not a generated sunset over a house you did not service.
- The operator, if they agreed. Staff on camera need a grant for this use. Last year's Facebook photo is not that grant.
Hands and tools do more work than faces here. A face without a job is a talking head. A job without a face is still a demo. Many of the best local UGC ads are a phone on a dashboard and a voice, or a phone on a step and a wrench.
What not to fake: a storefront you do not have, a "before" flood you did not pump, a five-star overlay you cannot document, a neighbour who does not exist. Human UGC still rates 81% on authenticity against 63% for AI UGC (Kapwing 2026; archive.com / creator.co). In local services the gap shows up on brick, weather, and whether the van is the van people have seen on the street. If the fork is AI UGC, keep the job-site photography real and generate the wrap, not the house.
Do not generate customers. A synthetic "they fixed my AC in an hour" is a fabricated testimonial. See a testimonial ad is not a review. If you have a real customer, get paper for this video, this paid use, this term. Public Google reviews are not a Meta grant.
No fake storefronts
A fake storefront is the catalog render of this category. It shows up as:
- A generated glass shop on a stock street.
- A drone of a building you do not occupy.
- A reception desk that is a prompt.
- A map pin on an address that is a virtual office.
Local viewers compare ads to the drive they do every day. If the brick is wrong, the ad is a lie, and the comments will say so. 48% of UGC platforms launched 2023–25 are AI-native (archive.com; creator.co). That supply is how fake storefronts got cheap. Cheap is not a reason.
If you have no shop, say you are mobile. Film the van. Film the tote. Film the job. A mobile operator with a real van beats a generated high street.
Article 50 has applied since 2 August 2026 to realistic synthetic people, places, or events an EU audience would take as authentic. A realistic generate of a street that is not the job is a place problem, not a style. Labeling it does not make it the job site. Prefer not to generate the street.
Claims stay on what you can do in that market: licence, radius, "same-day" only if you can. Testimonials stay on real mouths. Prices in ads are a policy and a bait problem; if you put a price on screen, it has to be a price you will honour.
Handheld on the actual site
The camera is a phone. Slight shake, ordinary daylight, captions for mute. The UGC ad conventions still apply. A cinema commercial of a wrench is a brand film.
A 15–25s shape that stays in the format:
- Hook on the job, not the identity. "This is the filter that was in the unit" / "The door was scraping the frame." Not "as a locally loved team."
- The site. One establishing second that is true.
- The work. Hands, tool, one step.
- The after of the work. Observable.
- CTA. Call, form, radius. One. Do not send them to a generated map.
Captions: burn them in. Trade names and streets are what auto captions miss. Keep the block off the work. See captions for silent autoplay.
Audio: a compressor, a mower, a door. Room is proof. A radio-spot VO is a studio tell.
Disclosure: paid customer, paid creator, employee — say so. FTC endorsement disclosure still applies. Staff playing "a homeowner we just met" is an endorsement problem and a trust problem.
Street energy without invented streets
Steal handheld documentary energy. Do not invent the corner.
NYC Street Interview is a vertical, handheld, on-location shape: a real-looking sidewalk, a mic, adults talking. For local services, keep the handheld and the real location. Replace the entertainment question with the job. Do not generate a sidewalk of strangers praising your van. Do not clone the workflow as fake customers on a fake street. If you need a talking wrap, it is an employee or a consented customer on the actual site, or it is VO over the work.
The UGC video generator is the assembly: captions, optional talking plate, cuts of real job-site footage. Put the real stills and clips in the picture track. Do not ask the model for a storefront.
66% of creators offer UGC services and the creator population grew 93% year on year (Kapwing 2026; creator.co). A hired creator who has never been to the site will generate the site. Send them to the job, or send them the real footage, or do not hire them for this category.
87% of brands use UGC and 16% have a strategy (Kapwing 2026; creator.co). For local services the strategy is "real site, real work, real mouths or no mouths." Usage rights still apply to a customer's porch and a staff face. Paid social is a different grant from a Google post.
If the cut would still make sense with a stock neighbourhood swapped in, it is not local UGC. Put the actual site back in frame one.
Assemble the job-site cut in Versely.
FAQ
Can I generate a nicer shopfront if we work from a van?
No. If you are mobile, film the van. A generated shop is a lie about where you are. Local viewers will check.
Can I use a happy family on a porch as the customer?
Only if they are the customer, they consented to this use, and you disclose paid or gifted relationships. A generated family is a fabricated testimonial.
Do I need a talking head?
No. The work is the product. A voice over the job site is local UGC. A face helps when it is staff or a consented customer, labelled as such.
