Marketplace UGC must match the listing photo
Marketplace UGC must match the listing photo. Animate the gallery still; a prettier pack is a different listing.
Marketplace UGC must match the listing photo. The production constraint is the gallery still the buyer can already see next to the buy button: same unit, same condition, same variant, same dieline. Image-to-video from that still. A prettier pack, a different colourway, a “hero” angle that is not in the gallery is a different listing wearing this SKU. Animate the photo you listed. Do not generate a cousin.
This is not PDP UGC. PDP on this site is a brand.com pack module next to Add to cart. A marketplace listing is a seller’s gallery on a multi-seller surface — Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Walmart Marketplace, Facebook Marketplace, a local classifieds app — where the buyer’s first comparison is thumbnail versus clip, not brand versus brand. It is also not UGC for Amazon listings, which is the rights split among A+, gallery video, and feed ads. This page is the match: if the listing photo is the scuffed blue toaster, the clip is the scuffed blue toaster.
UGC ads still show about 4× click-through and about 50% lower CPC, and 86% of brands say UGC lifts performance (Kapwing 2026; Billo). 92% of consumers trust a peer over a brand message in the same stack. A peer on a marketplace is someone holding the unit in the thumbnail, not a mood object. Human UGC still rates 81% on authenticity against 63% for AI UGC (Kapwing 2026; archive.com / creator.co). On a listing the gap is the scuff. Shoppers pause on the word and on the dent. They do not pause on melted type.
The gallery still is the contract
Pull the hero still from the live listing, or from the same photo set the listing uses. Do not re-shoot a “better” unit in generate and hope the cart still feels like the same offer. If the live gallery is the used navy unit with a mark on the lid, and the clip is a mint white unit, you are advertising a sibling — or a lie about condition.
Approve, at 100% zoom, before any motion:
- The same unit. Serialised or one-of-one listings are the strict case: that object, not a replacement from the same SKU family.
- Condition. New, used, refurbished, “for parts.” A generated clean-up of a scratch is a different grade.
- Variant: size, colour, edition, year. Marketplace filters are how buyers catch you.
- Background. If the listing is a kitchen counter, a seamless in the clip is a different set. Lifestyle can be a second module if the gallery already has it. The pack module has to be the pack.
If the still would fail a listing-photo audit, motion will not save it. Retry the still. Hands are allowed. A kitchen is allowed. A new pack is not. Pick a human when the hands matter is the hinge, the zip, the scuff — of that unit.
Do not:
- Prompt a “premium redesign” of a live listing.
- Swap the variant because the red is prettier than the SKU in the URL.
- Add a badge the listing does not show (awards, “#1,” a percentage you cannot document).
- Mirror the pack so type reads wrong.
- Crop the defect off and hope the clip feels cleaner.
- Use a manufacturer hero on a used listing without saying it is a stock photo, if the marketplace even allows that.
Brand.com and marketplace galleries both count, and they often differ. Two URLs, two stills, if the photos differ. Running the brand.com hero as the marketplace clip is how a used unit inherits a new-in-box picture.
Variants, condition, and one-of-one
Marketplaces mix new retail, used, handmade, and unique. Each has a match rule.
New multi-quantity: the clip may be any unit of that SKU if it matches the listing photos. If the listing photos are the 12oz and you hold the 16oz, you are on the wrong URL.
Used and refurbished: the clip is that grade. Generating a “like new” pass on a “good” listing is a bait condition. If you refurbished between photo and clip, update the gallery first, then move the clip.
Handmade: the clip is a unit from the batch you will ship, or the exact object if the listing is made-to-order with a sample photo that is labelled as a sample. Generating a neater stitch is a different shop.
One-of-one (vintage, vehicles, furniture, art): the clip is that object. If it sold, the ad comes down. Generating a replacement overnight is how you advertise a chair that is not there. This is the same honesty as auto UGC on a VIN, without being a dealer page.
Vehicles on marketplaces: plates, VIN, and damage disclosure still apply. Do not generate a cleaner quarter panel. Do not place the car on a coastline you are not selling from.
Do not generate a buyer. A photoreal “unboxing customer” who does not exist is a testimonial ad you fabricated. New York’s synthetic-performer law (N.Y. GBL § 396-b, in force 9 June 2026) requires conspicuous disclosure of generated human performers in ads that can reach New York consumers. $1,000 first, $5,000 subsequent. A fake unboxer is a performer. Article 50 wants a first-exposure label on photoreal people for EU audiences since 2 August 2026. A labelled fake kitchen is still a fake kitchen. Use the Article 50 disclosure template.
YouTube’s 27 May 2026 labelling pass (YouTube Blog) overlays photoreal or meaningfully AI-altered Shorts. Labels do not turn a synthetic mint unit into the scuffed one in the gallery.
Minors: do not. Not as unboxers of a toy listing, not generated.
Seller vs brand.com vs the feed
Three surfaces, three match jobs:
- Listing gallery / A+ on the marketplace. Shopper already clicked. They are comparing the clip to the photos. No “wait, stop scrolling” opener that hides the unit. Hands, ordinary room, the back, the defect, the size against a known object. Burned-in captions for mute. Marketplace rules on price, QR, and off-platform URLs still apply — check the current seller help page before a batch; they change.
- Off-platform feed ads that land on the listing. The first second still has to be the unit in the thumbnail, or the click is a bait-and-switch. Rights: a creator’s organic grant is not automatically a paid feed grant. Usage rights default to the narrow reading. See the Amazon rights split if that is the destination.
- Brand.com PDP. Different still if the photos differ. Do not reuse a marketplace used-unit clip as the brand.com hero.
FTC endorsement disclosure still applies if a creator was paid or gifted. A seller filming their own unit is the seller; do not cut yourself as a “customer who just loves it” unless you are buying it.
Claims: write from the listing copy you will honour. UGC VO that inflates shipping, authenticity, or “limited” is still the listing. Burn the allowed line. The AI caption generator is for typesetting those strings, not for adding a badge. Watch the safe area.
YouTube’s inauthentic-content policy, as reported by Mashable on 21 July 2026, includes synthetic personas presenting as human authorities. A marketplace ad that mints a “authenticator” or a “dealer principal” for a collectible is that bucket. Film the person who actually grades, or stay on the object.
Audio: a hinge on that unit is allowed. A radio-spot VO over a generated seamless is a studio tell. Do not steal a track you did not licence.
Counterfeit and IP: generating a logo-correct pack you do not hold is a listing problem and an IP problem. Film the unit you will ship.
Motion from that still only
Sellers already have the plates this format wants: the gallery stills, a phone walk of the unit, a scale shot against a mug. That is the library. The generate layer is captions, crop, and a mute orbit of that still. It is not a new object.
The UGC video generator can wrap a real unit clip with a seller wrap you recorded and burned-in condition lines. Do not prompt it for “a luxury product on marble at golden hour.” Prompt it to caption the navy toaster in the gallery.
Motion from the approved still: Wan 2.7 Image to Video is 15 credits, 1080p, 2–15 seconds, audio null — a mute push on the listing photo. Do not prompt a second colourway. Seedance 2.0 Fast Reference to Video is 25 credits, 720p, 4–15 seconds, native audio, only if the reference is that still and the motion does not invent a lid. Veo 3.1 will invent a handsome object in 4 / 6 / 8 seconds at 40 credits. Handsome is a different listing. Keep Veo off the gallery.
66% of creators offer UGC services and the creator population grew 93% year on year (Kapwing 2026; creator.co). A creator holding a unit that is not the listing photo is a presenter for a different SKU. 87% of brands use UGC and 16% have a strategy. The strategy here is: gallery still first, condition honest, one-of-one taken down when it sells, no synthetic mint.
If the cut still works after you change the listing URL, you did not film the unit. Put the thumbnail in frame one.
Caption the gallery still in Versely.
FAQ
Can I generate a cleaner unit if the listing says “good” condition?
No. Cleaner is a different grade. Update the listing if you refurbished. Then film that unit. A generated mint pass is a bait photo in motion.
Can brand.com hero footage run as the marketplace clip?
Only if the photos match. If the marketplace gallery is a different angle, colour, or condition, it is a different still. Two URLs, two plates.
Does a creator’s organic video cover paid traffic to the listing?
Only if the grant bought paid use, a term, and that destination. Silence favours the creator. The MP4 is not the licence.
