Which editor edits spend credits
Trims, splits, titles and brand kit land free in the Versely web editor. Captions, generated music, clips, dubs and upscales spend credits and wait for OK.
Free timeline work lands immediately. Credit jobs wait. In the Versely web editor, trims, splits, reorders, speed changes, transitions, titles, aspect changes and a brand-kit apply are free and instant. Caption the whole cut, Score it with music, generated clips, images and sound, dubbing and upscaling spend credits. The agent shows those as a plan and does not run them until you OK it. Close the plan and nothing is billed.
Open the video editor. On a wide screen the Editor Agent is already open beside the timeline. Type what you want in plain words, or click a one-click automation by its exact label. This is the same account as the Android app on your phone. The long cut happens here.
Free edits land on the timeline
The free lane rearranges, typesets or frames footage you already have. No model generates a new file. You ask. The cut updates.
Cut & arrange. Trim a video, split at a timestamp, reorder clips, change speed, add a transition.
- Drop a clip from the Video tab onto the timeline, or upload one. Library items — uploads, generations, music — show as strips in the Image, Video and Audio tabs.
- Type What's on my timeline? The agent answers in plain words: how many clips, how long, what audio is sitting there. Run this before you spend anything on a file you did not cut.
- Type a trim. "Trim the first 1.5 seconds of clip 1." "Split the talking-head at 4.2 seconds." "Speed the B-roll to 1.25×." "Put a crossfade between clip 1 and clip 2." Watch the timeline move.
Titles. A line you wrote is a title, not a caption. "Add a title that says WAIT FOR IT over the first two seconds." It does not listen to the audio. It lands now.
Canvas & brand. "Set this to 9:16." "Apply my brand kit to the titles." Aspect ratio, background, fonts and colours from the Brand Kit panel. Applying the kit is free; the brand kit as the style guide is the setup.
Auto-edit for TikTok. Vertical 9:16, a hook title over the open, dead air cut. Picture and a title. Click the label, or type the same words. It is not a caption burn and it is not a music bed. Then stop and look at the timeline.
Balance the audio. Voice up front, music under it. Levels on tracks that are already there. Use it after a bed exists.
A sentence can stack free work: "Make this 9:16, cut the dead air, put a hook title on the open, then show me what's on my timeline." Do that pass before any credit job.
Credit jobs wait for your OK
A credit job makes something the timeline did not already contain. The agent never runs those silently.
Caption the whole cut. Burned-in subtitles across every clip. The cut must contain audible speech. Trim first, caption second. Output is an MP4 with the captions in the frames. Preview a style on the first few seconds of this file before you caption the whole cut. 165 language codes; name the language that is actually spoken. The walkthrough is caption the whole cut in the agent.
Score it with music. A generated music bed under the cut, ducked for voice. This is a new bed, not a level nudge. If you already have a track in the Audio tab, drop that strip instead and use Balance the audio.
Generate media. New clips, images and sound from a prompt, dropped onto this timeline. "Generate a three-second clip of a matcha pour and put it after the hook." That is the same family of work as generate a video from text, run from the editor so the file lands on this cut. You will see the plan first.
Dub and upscale. Dub a video into another language and upscale a video sit in Finish & export. Confirm the plan. Do not dub or upscale a cut you are still trimming.
Social import is the other 1-credit action on this screen. In the Media tab, paste a TikTok, Instagram or X post link. The preview card is free. Import costs 1 credit; the credit is refunded if the import fails. YouTube links usually cannot be imported — there is no downloadable file — and the editor says so.
| Action | Credits |
|---|---|
| Trim, split, reorder, speed, transition | None. Lands now. |
| Title you typed, aspect, brand kit | None. Lands now. |
| Auto-edit for TikTok, Balance the audio, What's on my timeline? | None. |
| Caption the whole cut | Yes. Plan first. Basic 1×, Dynamic 2×. |
| Score it with music; generate a clip, image or sound | Yes. Plan first. |
| Dub or upscale | Yes. Plan first. |
Do not invent a credit number in the prompt. Read the quote on the plan.
Captions bill 1× or 2× for the same speech
Transcription is the same work. The look is what changes the quote.
Basic presets bill 1×. Dynamic presets bill 2× for the same transcription. Glass is a Dynamic preset, and it is the default. An unnamed click of Caption the whole cut is a 2× look. Name a Basic preset when you want 1×. Name Glass when you actually want Glass.
Preview before the full burn. Ask the agent to preview a named preset on the first few seconds of this file. Two candidates are enough. Captioning the whole cut in three looks to pick one spends the transcription three times.
The cut has to be locked. A bumper you drop after burn-in takes every cue with it. A silent product plate or a clip that is only a music bed gives the transcriber nothing useful. If the words are yours and nobody spoke them — a hook, a URL — that is a title, not a caption job.
Language is a code. A French voiceover with en-US still on the request is a bad English transcript. A dubbed cut is a new caption job after the dub, in the new language.
How the plan looks before anything is billed
Free edits land instantly; anything that spends credits is shown as a plan and waits for your OK first.
Click Caption the whole cut (or type "put subtitles on this in a Basic preset, language en-US"). The agent does not start the burn. It comes back with a plan: what it will do, which preset, what it will cost in credits. You OK, or you close it. Closing it bills nothing.
The same pause happens for Score it with music, a generate, a dub, an upscale. Auto-edit for TikTok, a trim, a title, an aspect change, a brand-kit apply, Balance the audio, and What's on my timeline? do not wait. If a stacked instruction mixes both lanes — "make this 9:16, cut the dead air, then caption the whole cut" — the free steps can land, and the caption step still comes back as a plan.
There is no silent spend. If you did not OK a plan, credits did not move. If a social import fails, the 1 credit comes back.
Lock picture first. Generate missing B-roll before you caption, not after. Score and balance audio, add authored titles, caption last. Dub or upscale only if you still need them. Then render.
Credits roll over. Every plan has this editor.
The editor is not a plan feature. Every plan gets the same models and editor. Weekly, Standard, Pro — same timeline, same agent, same automations, same caption presets. What changes is how many credits you hold.
A free account is enough to start. Weekly is 240 credits. Standard Monthly is 774. Pro Monthly is 1,600. Standard Annual is 9,600. Pro Annual is 19,200. Credits roll over while you are subscribed. Read the buckets on pricing. Caption the whole cut is on every plan. The quote is the same number of credits for the same file.
Upgrading is a throughput call. If you caption thirty talking-heads a month on Dynamic presets, you need more credits, not a different editor. If you mostly trim, title, retime and apply a kit, most of the session never touches the balance.
A caption burn and a generated clip draw from the same credit wallet. Lock the picture on the free lane first.
Do this on the first file
- Open the video editor, drop a clip on the timeline (or Import a TikTok, Instagram or X link from the Media tab after you read the free preview card), and type What's on my timeline? Then click Auto-edit for TikTok, or type a trim. Watch the timeline move. That is the free lane.
- If someone is talking, preview a caption style on the first few seconds. Click Caption the whole cut. Read the plan. Name a Basic preset if you wanted 1×. OK it only if the cut is locked.
- If you need a generated bed, click Score it with music, read that plan, OK it, then click Balance the audio. Skip Score it if a track is already in the Audio tab.
Do not caption a moving cut. Do not OK a plan you have not read. Start with the rundown, lock the picture, spend credits last.
