Whitelisting is the practice: paid spend through the creator's account, with permission. The code is the artefact. TikTok issues it as a Spark authorization on one video for a window, commonly 30, 60, or 365 days. Meta's Partnership Ads grant is scoped access without a password. The brand never needs the login. The code expires. Renewing it is maintenance, not a one-time setup.
Usage rights are the contract underneath. A licence to repost the footage organically is not a licence to run ads, and it is not a licence to run ads from the creator's handle. Put the code, the paid-usage window, and the organic grant on separate lines. Exclusivity is a fourth line: what the creator cannot do for someone else during the term.
The code does not make the post good. Spark Ads and Partnership Ads spend behind a file that already exists. A weak open with a live authorization is still a weak open, now with a budget. Produce the cut — hook pack, UGC-style body, burned-in captions — then ask for the code, not the other way around.
In practice
- Confirm the code covers this post, this advertiser, and this end date. Screenshot the grant.
- Treat expiry as a calendar row. A flight that outlives the code is spend you cannot serve.
- Do not accept a login in lieu of a code. That is the informal version platforms replaced.
The mistake to avoid
Assuming a usage-rights PDF includes the whitelist code. One is a contract clause; the other is a platform token with its own clock.
