Why open on happy tears
Happy tears is the register that does not belong to short-form's usual grammar, and that is the entire argument for it. Seven of the fifty-two clips here are built on it, and they sit in the five settings where softness is plausible — a cafe table, a bathroom mirror, two street walks, a gym mirror after a set, two cozy-night beats. How happy tears goes wrong
- Manufacturing it. Every other emotion here survives being acted. This one does not, and the cost of a miss is trust rather than a wasted take.
- Playing it at full volume. The frame magnifies, so the level that feels correct in the room is usually too much on the export.
- Opening cold on tears. The register needs a visible or inferable cause — a workout, a walk, a thing in your hands — that came before it.
