Do I need the customer's consent for their name, likeness or voice?
Yes, for their words, their name and especially their likeness or voice. Using a stock presenter to voice an attributed quote is a different thing from recreating a real person, and it should be obvious to the viewer which one they are watching.
Can I use a real customer's photo?
Only with their consent. Given that, a clear front-facing portrait drives cleanly; profile angles, heavy shadow and anything crossing the jaw are where the mouth region degrades.
How do I stop it looking artificial?
Keep the read short, cut away to the product early, and let captions carry the claim. A long unbroken take of a generated presenter is the hardest version of this to make convincing.
Can the same testimonial run in another language?
Yes. Dubbing translates the read and can re-sync the mouth to the new language, which turns one approved testimonial into several markets' worth of assets.
What makes a testimonial worth filming at all?
Specificity. A named outcome, a number the customer volunteered, or a before-and-after beats an adjective, and it is also what gives the cutaways something to show.
