Pinterest video is not Reels chrome
Idea Pin safe-area is not TikTok’s caption zone. Recrop the type. A 9:16 Reel master is not a Pinterest-native video pin.
Pinterest video is not Reels chrome. Idea Pin safe-area is not TikTok’s caption zone and not Instagram’s. Recrop the captions. A 9:16 Reel master posted as a Pin will hide the line you burned for For You.
This page is type placement on Pinterest video. It is not the 2:3 still-Pin canvas explainer — that job is Pinterest-native graphics: 2:3. It is not a Pinterest AI-label recap.
Idea Pin chrome is not Reels chrome
Short-form apps draw different furniture on a full-frame file. Nothing is cropped. Something is covered. The region moves with OS version, caption length, localised usernames, shop tabs, and — on YouTube Shorts since May 2026 — an AI overlay label. A percentage copied from a TikTok template is a snapshot of TikTok that week, not a contract with Pinterest.
Pinterest’s video and Idea Pin surfaces are search and save, not a full-screen swipe-up story in the same posture as Reels. Viewers often see a pin in a grid first, then a closer view with Pinterest’s own buttons, title, and related pins. The lower-third you cleared for TikTok’s caption strip can sit under Pinterest’s description and product chrome. The top you cleared for a username can sit under Pinterest’s search and profile furniture. Copying a Reels safe-area diagram onto a Pin and calling it done is how a price and a SKU vanish.
Still pins have a different, documented canvas: Pinterest’s own creative guidance wants 2:3 at 1000×1500, with a truncation cliff if you go too tall (Pinterest business creative best practices; help-centre pin specs). Video pins are not “2:3 but moving.” They are video, with Pinterest’s player chrome, often watched in a grid context where the first frame is a poster. If the first readable words are in the TikTok-safe lower third, the grid may never show them.
Do not treat “we already have a 9:16 master” as “we have a Pin.” You have a vertical file. You do not have type that survives this UI.
The caption zone moves
Burned-in captions are pixels. They do not reflow when the platform changes chrome. That is the point of burn-in on mute autoplay, and it is the trap on a second network.
TikTok’s caption zone is a habit: two lines, lower third, above the username and the engagement column. Instagram Reels is a cousin, not a twin. Facebook Reels is the same 9:16 file with still-different buttons. Pinterest is not in that family. Idea Pin playback, product tags, and the save layer eat different rectangles.
Caption timing still has to match speech. Moving the block up 12% for Pinterest does not mean you can pack four lines. The two-line limit is the captioning habit that keeps a cue from becoming a brick that walks into whatever chrome this app shipped. After a reframe, re-place captions. Safe-title from broadcast is not social safe-area. Social safe-area is not portable.
Practical checks:
- Watch the Pin on a phone in the Pinterest app, not in a desktop grid screenshot.
- Confirm the first three seconds — the poster-like read — still show the claim without relying on TikTok’s lower third.
- Confirm product text and SKU are not under save/product UI.
- Confirm a disclosure line, if Article 50 needs one, is visible at first exposure in this player, not only in the Reel you already posted.
YouTube’s 27 May 2026 labelling post is a reminder that platforms add overlay chrome over time (Shorts overlay on photoreal AI). Pinterest has its own AI-modified labelling on Pins and ads. New badges steal pixels. Re-check when the UI moves. The glossary warning is the rule: treat a safe-area guide as a snapshot, not a spec.
Recrop the type, not just the frame
Teams recrop the picture and leave the caption track attached as if it were a sidecar. The track is already burned. A 9:16 to a tighter Pinterest-safe inner frame will clip the words or leave them sitting in the new danger zone.
The finish is:
- Lock the picture.
- Duplicate the timeline for Pinterest, or re-burn captions with a Pinterest-safe preset.
- Move the caption block to the inner frame that survives this chrome.
- Do not regenerate the mouth to “fit Pinterest” unless the crop cut the face off. Type is cheaper than a new Seedance 2.0 take.
If the Pin is really a still-plus-motion in a 2:3 grid, you may need a 2:3 master, not a letterboxed 9:16. That is a generate-time aspect choice, the same rule as pick 9:16 before you generate for Reels. Pinterest-native stills want 2:3 from the first draft. Mixing a Reel generate into a 2:3 still Pin is a poster-frame grab plus type, not a “video strategy.”
Caption styles exist so the look can be previewed before the burn. Classic / Paper / Ink remain the readable social shelf. A karaoke family that was designed to sit on TikTok’s lower third will collide with Pinterest faster, not slower. Pick a quieter block and place it on purpose.
Generate for the pin, finish for the pin
Search is Pinterest’s job. The pin has to answer a query in a still moment. A Reel hook that only works as a swipe-up surprise often fails as a saveable how-to. That is strategy, and it is why Pinterest video strategy for brands exists. This page only needs the chrome consequence: even a good Pinterest brief fails if the words are in the wrong rectangle.
Workflow:
- If the clip is Reels-first, post the Reel master to IG/TikTok/FB Reels (same 9:16 file on Facebook; do not re-generate).
- Make a Pinterest finish: recrop type, possibly recrop frame toward 2:3 for the still cover, keep the same locked SKU.
- Run the pre-publish check against Pinterest playback, not against the TikTok preview.
- Label photoreal AI on Pinterest’s own controls; do not assume Instagram AI info travelled.
The AI caption generator is the re-burn door. The AI video generator is only for a new take when the aspect or the brief actually changed. If you want both burns on one bill, sign up and stop treating TikTok’s caption zone as a universal spec.
FAQ
Can I post the TikTok file to Pinterest without touching captions?
You can upload it. Viewers may never see the words you burned for TikTok chrome. Recrop the type. That is the whole page.
Is Pinterest video 9:16 or 2:3?
Stills are specified as 2:3. Video pins play as video with Pinterest chrome and are often discovered as a grid thumbnail. Do not assume Reels 9:16 safe-area. Check the current app. Generate 2:3 when the object is a still pin.
Do I regenerate the clip for Pinterest?
Only if the aspect or the brief changed. If the picture is right and the type is in the TikTok zone, re-burn captions. A new model call is how the SKU drifts.
