Church UGC needs consent in the pews
Church UGC needs consent in the pews. Recap from the service you recorded; a generated congregation is a fake house.
Church UGC needs consent in the pews. The production constraint is the congregation: people who came to worship, whose faces the camera will catch, whose children sit in the same room, whose voices may be on the mix. A generated packed house is a fake attendance. A generated worship leader is a synthetic performer in a pulpit. Recap from the service you recorded, with a notice people could actually see, and a grant for anyone you feature in a paid or promotional cut. Do not mint a flock.
This is not nonprofit UGC. Nonprofit on this site is beneficiaries and dignity in fundraising. A church may also fundraise; this page is the gathering: liturgy, pews, the room on a Sunday. It is also not event UGC. A conference recap is a billed room. Worship is a community that did not buy a ticket to be in an ad.
UGC ads still show about 4× click-through and about 50% lower CPC, and 86% of brands say UGC lifts performance (Kapwing 2026; Billo). 92% of consumers trust a peer over a brand message in the same stack. A peer in a church was in the room, or leads in the room. Human UGC still rates 81% on authenticity against 63% for AI UGC (Kapwing 2026; archive.com / creator.co). The gap is whether the house breathes, and whether anyone in it agreed to be a promo.
Congregation is not a crowd generate
The recap is an edit, not a generate. Phones from the balcony you are allowed to use, a locked-off of the lectern, the actual mix if you have the right to use it. Cut for Monday. Caption the service time, the address, the next date.
What the file has to be true of:
- The room. Ceiling, pews, the pillar that was in the way.
- The bill. Who actually preached or led, in an order that is not a lie.
- The house. If it was half full, it was half full. Crop tight on people who were there and who can be shown, rather than inventing the rest.
- The notice. A filming notice people could see before they sat, plus a path to sit out of frame.
Do not generate:
- A packed nave.
- A worship leader who does not exist.
- A baptism, a wedding, or a funeral as atmosphere.
- A “typical Sunday” composited from three Sundays into one full house.
New York’s synthetic-performer law (N.Y. GBL § 396-b, in force 9 June 2026) requires conspicuous disclosure of generated human performers in ads that can reach New York consumers. $1,000 first, $5,000 subsequent. A fake congregation is a roomful of performers. A church promo that spends is an ad. Article 50 wants a first-exposure label on photoreal people and events for EU audiences since 2 August 2026. A labelled fake house is still a fake house. Use the Article 50 disclosure template. Then still do not fill the pews in a prompt.
A member on camera speaking a result (“this community saved me”) is a testimonial ad if you will spend, and it is pastoral care even if you will not. The words have to be theirs, on paper, with a withdrawal path that will actually pull a Meta ad. Do not pressure pastoral care into a reel. If the next appointment depended on the interview, stop.
Staff and clergy: identify them as staff. Employment plus a grant for promotional use. A sermon recording for the podcast is not automatically a paid acquisition ad. Usage rights default to the narrow reading.
YouTube’s 27 May 2026 labelling pass (YouTube Blog) overlays photoreal or meaningfully AI-altered Shorts. Labels do not make a fake house a full house.
Minors in worship
Do not generate a child. Do not default to real child faces in a paid or promotional cut of a service. Children’s ministry, youth, baptisms of minors, nativity plays — those are pastoral files, not a casting brief. This page’s promotional default is: no child faces.
Real children in real footage, if counsel and parents ever allow a use, need: parental consent, usage window, no comments left open if the platform cannot keep comments off the child, no retargeting off the face. Many churches will still choose not to. That is a valid brief.
Crop the front rows if that is where families sit. Shoot the lectern. Shoot the empty room on Saturday with a notice that Sunday will be filmed. Shoot adult greeters who agreed. Those are enough pictures to say the church exists.
Youth pastors and volunteers: adults on camera still need grants. A DBS or background-check status is not a TikTok licence. Do not cut a volunteer as a “new believer we just met” if they are staff.
YouTube’s inauthentic-content policy, as reported by Mashable on 21 July 2026, includes synthetic personas presenting as human authorities. A generated cleric teaching as if they hold an office is that problem in a collar. Film the person who actually leads, or stay on the building.
Music licences are not the PA mix
The congregation singing is a rights stack: the song, the arrangement, the people. The PA mix is not your Meta soundtrack. CCLI and similar licences for the room are not automatically a social or ads licence. Generating a crowd singing a chart worship song is two problems (the song, the singers).
Practical paths:
- Recut silent with burned-in captions of the service time and the address.
- Use a bed you cleared for social.
- Use original music you own.
- Quote a line of liturgy you have the right to print, as type, over a locked-off of the empty room.
Do not steal last Sunday’s Spotify-adjacent set for a paid invite. Do not generate a choir.
Captions: burn the service time as the site names it, the address, the livestream URL if that is the CTA. Auto-captions will smash names and place names. The AI caption generator is for those strings. Keep type off faces you are allowed to show. Watch the safe area. See captions for silent autoplay if the mix cannot travel.
Livestream vs promo: a livestream of a service, with a notice, is a different job from a paid acquisition cut that picks one crying face in a pew. The second job needs that person’s paper. Do not pull a reaction out of the stream and boost it.
Fundraising: if the cut is a gift ask, you are also in nonprofit territory. Do not invent a beneficiary. Do not generate need. Process — how to give, what the fund is for as the trustees named it — is the safer overlay on footage of the building.
FTC endorsement disclosure is rarely the frame inside a church, but a paid creator invited to film a service is a material connection if they post as if they wandered in. Say so.
Recap from the service you recorded
Churches already have the plates this format wants: a locked-off of the lectern, a Saturday walk of the room, a greeter who will sit for three takes, the times graphic. That is the library. The generate layer is captions, crop, and a hook over B-roll you filmed. It is not a new congregation.
The UGC video generator can wrap a real room clip with a leader you recorded and burned-in times. Do not prompt it for “a packed cathedral at golden hour with a soaring choir.” Prompt it to caption the 10am you actually run.
Veo 3.1 will invent a handsome nave in 4 / 6 / 8 seconds at 40 credits with native audio. Handsome is a different building. Keep it off the invite ad. If you need motion on a still of the empty room, Wan 2.7 Image to Video is 15 credits, 1080p, 2–15 seconds, audio null — a mute push on a sanctuary you photographed. Do not prompt extra people in the pews.
66% of creators offer UGC services and the creator population grew 93% year on year (Kapwing 2026; creator.co). A creator who attends is a member; paper the use if you will spend. A creator who never sat a pew is a presenter on the steps. 87% of brands use UGC and 16% have a strategy. The strategy here is: notice in the room, grants for featured faces, no children in the promo, no synthetic house.
If the cut still works after you change the church name, you did not film the gathering. Put the door in frame one.
Caption the pew recap in Versely.
FAQ
Can I generate extra people to make Sunday look full?
No. A generated congregant is a synthetic performer and a lie about the house. Film a real service with a notice and grants, or film the empty room. Empty is honest.
Can we use the livestream as a paid ad?
Not as a face-pick without that person’s grant. A livestream with a filming notice is not Ads Manager. Recut to the lectern, the times, the building, or paper the people you feature.
Is a baptism clip UGC we can boost?
Only with informed consent from the adult baptised, and not at all for a minor on this page’s default. Pastoral moments are a care file first. Process and times are the safer invite.
