Evergreen is a file you would still publish next quarter: a product how-to, a testimonial with a durable claim, an unboxing of a SKU you still sell, a myth that does not expire. Trend is a file whose hook is the sound, the template, the headline, or the challenge, and that hook has a half-life measured in days. One-tap templates and a stitched response to a clip that is already sliding are trend-shaped. A brand kit and a reusable character are evergreen infrastructure.
The metrics split with the job. Trend is graded on hook rate and shares-per-view in a short window. Evergreen is graded on saves, search, and RPM over a long one. Mixing the scoreboards is how a recipe that still earns bookmarks gets killed for a quiet week, and how a sound-led Reel that spiked on Tuesday gets asked to 'keep performing' in November.
A calendar that is all trend is a second job of watching the feed. A calendar that is all evergreen is safe and easy to ignore. The useful mix is a spine of evergreen slots plus a bounded number of trend slots you are allowed to miss. Cadence should say so: the Tuesday how-to does not move because a sound is hot; the Thursday trend slot is allowed to be empty rather than filled with a late copy of someone else's joke.
In practice
- Label each calendar row evergreen or trend before you generate, so the metric and the expiry date are chosen on purpose.
- Do not rebuild a working how-to because a template is circulating. Ship the template in the trend slot.
- Retire trend files when the sound dies. Leaving them in a paid set is how creative fatigue looks like a product problem.
The mistake to avoid
Judging an evergreen clip on a three-day share spike, or a trend clip on six-month RPM. They were never on the same clock.

Cadence
Cadence is the publishing rhythm you actually keep — three Reels a week, a daily Story — not velocity (how much you make) and not the calendar (which day).
Creative fatigue
Creative fatigue meaning: performance decay because the audience has seen the same piece too often, not because the piece changed.
One-tap template
A one-tap template is a curated, photo-in video format you run as a finished clip — no scene plan — rather than a multi-scene workflow you author.
Saves
Saves are bookmarks of a post — Instagram saves, TikTok favourites — a ranking signal that the viewer wants the file again, not just a like.
Spark Ads
Spark Ads meaning: TikTok budget behind an existing post (yours or a creator's) so paid reach keeps the real likes, comments, and shares.
