    Saves meaning

Also called Bookmarks, Favourites, Save rate.

Saves are bookmarks of a post — Instagram saves, TikTok favourites — a ranking signal that the viewer wants the file again, not just a like.

A like is social. A save is selfish. The viewer expects to come back: a recipe, a setup, a prompt, a product they might buy, a punchline they want to send later. Feeds have learned the difference. Instagram has treated saves as a stronger interest signal than likes for years; TikTok's favourites sit in the same family. A clip can look quiet on hearts and still be working if the save pile is moving.

The creative that earns a save is usually useful or dense, not merely sticky. How-to, a list, a before-and-after, an unboxing with a readable label, a testimonial with a specific claim — things a person would search for again. A hook that stops the thumb and a joke that completes both write watch time; they do not automatically write a save. Evergreen cuts harvest this number for months. Trend cuts harvest it for a weekend.

Do not read saves as a conversion. The person parked the file. They did not buy, click, or follow unless a second event says so. Shares-per-view is the send. Saves are the private keep. A carousel or a longer cut can beat a six-second loop on saves and lose on completion; those are different jobs, and the calendar should say which one a slot is for.

    In practice

    • When the brief is 'save this,' put a usable specific on screen — a step, a name, a number — not only a vibe.
    • Report save rate next to like rate. A quiet like count with a rising save pile is not a dead post.
    • Do not treat a save as a purchase. It is a bookmark.

    The mistake to avoid

Chasing likes because they are the public number. The algorithm is often reading the private one.
