    Usage window meaning

Also called Paid usage window, Licence term, Usage term.

A usage window is the timebox on paid use of a creator's content — how long the licence to run the file lasts, not whether they can work for a rival.

Usage rights say where the file can go and in what form. The usage window is how long that paid grant lasts: 30 days, 90 days, a year, a campaign end date. Organic rights often run on a different clock, or in perpetuity, which is a different clause. A Spark or Partnership authorization has its own platform window; the contract should not be shorter than the code you intend to use, and the code will not extend a contract that already lapsed.

Exclusivity window is the cousin people bundle into the same fee. Exclusivity is what the creator cannot do — no other skincare brand for 60 days. The usage window is what you can do with the footage. Pricing them as one number hides the fact that you might still be running the ad after they are free to shoot for a competitor, or blocked from a competitor while your paid rights have already expired.

Generated UGC-style ads have the same clock once a real person's likeness is in the file. A digital-twin clause that is silent on the end date is an open-ended grant. Name the channels, the paid/organic split, and the last day. Then make sure the cut you want to keep spending behind is finished inside that window — a hook pack you generate on day 89 of a 90-day grant is a pack you may not be able to run.

    In practice

    • Write an end date on paid use. 'Until we take it down' is not a window.
    • Align the contract window with the whitelist-code expiry, or the shorter one wins.
    • Do not treat exclusivity days as usage days. They meter different things.

    The mistake to avoid

Running the ad after the window because the file is still on disk. Possession of the MP4 is not the licence.
