Aspect Ratio & Resize · Versely AI

    Change a Video's Aspect Ratio

    One clip. Any frame.

edit_video is Versely's agent-driven EDL render — a single tool call that can stitch, trim, speed-change, caption, overlay and mix clips into one final video, with an aspect_ratio parameter that reframes the whole output to the shape you need.

This is the general version of the aspect-ratio job. If you know exactly which platform you're targeting, make-video-vertical, resize-video-for-tiktok and crop-video-to-square walk through the specific settings for each.

    edit_video

Agent-driven EDL render via the Versely editor pipeline (POST /features/editor-render). Stitch, trim, speed-change, caption, overlay, and mix user media (workspace/generation HTTPS URLs) into ONE final video. Prefer this over chaining cut_video + attach_audio + add_*_captions when the user wants a multi-clip assembly in a single step. Billing: preview:true is free 480p (per-user cooldown); final export (preview:false, default) charges the normal single editor_export price. Prefer preview:true while the user is iterating; only final-render after confirmation. Clips must be HTTPS URLs (file:// and other schemes rejected). Returns { video_url, credits_charged, preview_notes } or a 402-style insufficient-credits error.

    What to tell the agent

Versely's agent maps this plain-English request directly onto edit_video. You don't need to know the parameter names — just describe what you want.

Reformat this video to 1:1 square for an Instagram feed post.

    How it works

    1. 1. Give the agent your clip

clips takes HTTPS media URLs from your workspace or a prior generation — file:// paths are rejected.

    2. 2. Say the target ratio in plain English

9:16 for vertical, 1:1 for square, 16:9 for widescreen — tell the agent which platform you're aiming for and it sets aspect_ratio accordingly.

    3. 3. Preview for free first

Set preview:true to get a free 480p render (subject to a per-user cooldown) before spending credits on the full export.

    4. 4. Confirm the final export

Once you're happy with the framing, request the final render (preview:false) at your target resolution.

    What it costs

preview:true renders are free 480p (per-user cooldown applies). The final export (preview:false, the default) charges the normal single editor_export price — ask the agent for estimate_cost to see the exact number before confirming.

The formula behind that number: What does editing a video cost if I keep changing it? charges per finished export, so iteration is free and the count is the whole bill.

    Limits & things to know

    • Reframing a clip shot in one aspect ratio into a very different one will crop or letterbox the original framing — it can't invent picture information that wasn't captured.
    • Clips must be HTTPS URLs; local file paths aren't accepted.
    • Free previews render at 480p and are subject to a per-user cooldown, not unlimited.

    Who uses this

    • Turning a 16:9 YouTube video into a 9:16 Short
    • Prepping a square 1:1 crop for an Instagram feed post
    • Standardizing mixed-ratio footage into one consistent output

    Frequently asked questions

Can I preview the reframe before paying for it?+

Yes — set preview:true for a free 480p render (subject to a per-user cooldown) before committing to the final export.

    What aspect ratios are supported?+

You describe the target in plain English to the agent — common choices are 9:16 for vertical/TikTok/Reels, 1:1 for square feed posts, and 16:9 for widescreen/YouTube.

Will reframing crop out part of my shot?+

It can, depending on how different the new ratio is from the original — the tool reframes existing footage, it doesn't generate new picture information outside the original frame.
