Every other page in this group tells you HOW to change a video's shape. This one is about deciding WHICH shape, from evidence rather than from the default assumption that everything should be 9:16. get_content_insights reads your own recent social posts and breaks them down by platform and by format — image, video, carousel, text — returning post counts, average and median views and engagement, your top three posts, and the best posting hour and day where the timestamps allow it.
Its own description positions it as something to run BEFORE creating content for your channels, to recommend what format and platform performs best. It's explicitly not a mandatory gate — it's the read you take before committing an afternoon to reformatting a back catalogue in the wrong direction.

Analytics-driven content strategy summary for the user's recent social posts — by platform and format (image/video/carousel/text): post counts, avg/median views & engagement, top 3 posts, best posting hour/day when timestamps allow. Use BEFORE creating content explicitly for the user's social channels to recommend what format/platform performs best. Not a mandatory gate — offer insights when planning social content.
What to tell the agent
Versely's agent maps this plain-English request directly onto get_content_insights. You don't need to know the parameter names — just describe what you want.
“Show me which format performs best on my accounts over the last 90 days, then reformat this video to whichever one wins.”
How it works
1. Read your own numbers first
get_content_insights takes a platform filter and a days window, and returns per-platform, per-format performance across your recent posts rather than a generic best-practice answer.
2. Check the individual outliers
get_social_analytics gives the account-level overview and top-performing posts, which is the sanity check on whether a format's average is being carried by one viral post.
3. Sanity-check the clip against the target
analyze_content takes a generation id (or 'latest') and a target_platform, and returns quality, composition and improvement notes for that destination specifically.
4. Reframe to the winner
Feed the decision into edit_video — 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 — and preview at 480p for free before paying for the final export.
What it costs
Reading insights and analytics is cheap relative to the render they inform; the credits go on the edit_video export at the end, which supports a free 480p preview (preview:true, per-user cooldown) before the charged final. Ask the agent for estimate_cost on the export itself.
The formula behind that number: What does editing a video cost if I keep changing it? — charges per finished export, so iteration is free and the count is the whole bill.
Limits & things to know
- Insights are computed from YOUR posts published through Versely's social integration — a brand-new account with nothing posted has nothing to analyze, and this tells you nothing about a competitor's account.
- Best posting hour and day are only returned when the underlying post timestamps allow it, so that field can legitimately be absent.
- Averages over a small number of posts are noisy. Check the top-three list before treating a format's average as a verdict.
- This recommends; it doesn't reformat. The actual aspect-ratio change is still an edit_video render.
Who uses this
- Deciding whether a long-form video is worth cutting to vertical at all
- Choosing between carousel and video for a product launch
- Justifying a format change to a client with their own numbers
- Prioritising which back-catalogue videos to reformat first
Frequently asked questions
Does this tell me the best format in general, or for me?+
For you. get_content_insights summarizes your own recent social posts by platform and format — post counts, average and median views and engagement, and your top three posts — rather than returning generic platform advice.
What if I haven't posted through Versely yet?+
Then there's nothing to summarize. The insights are derived from your connected accounts' posts, so this becomes useful once you have a run of published content rather than on day one.
Will it tell me when to post as well as what to post?+
It returns the best posting hour and day when the post timestamps allow that calculation — so sometimes, but it's conditional rather than guaranteed.
Does it change my video's aspect ratio automatically?+
No — it's the decision step. Once you know the target, edit_video does the reframe, with a free 480p preview before the charged export.
