Cut the room out and put something else there
Use it when: You have usable footage of a person or object and an unusable background.
- 01Shoot against the most boring wall you have, lit evenly. Contrast between subject and background matters far more than either one looking good.
- 02Avoid loose hair, sheer fabric and hands crossing the body edge in the take you intend to cut out — those are where a matte fails visibly.
- 03Remove the background from the clip, then generate or pick the replacement separately so you can swap it without re-cutting the subject.
- 04Match the replacement's light direction to the take. A subject lit from the left in front of a scene lit from the right is the tell that everyone reads as fake.
