Suno caps downloads, not songs

Suno Pro caps downloads at 20 a month. Premier caps them at 60. Generation credits are a different meter. You can still create, remix, listen, and share far more songs than you can take off the platform. Unused monthly downloads do not roll over. One song is one download, stems included. The cap also hits old library files you never exported. Free trial downloads are not commercial. Do not drain a 20-export Pro budget for beds you will mute-replace.

That split is the product, not a glitch in the billing UI. Suno's pricing page, fetched 19 September 2026 with the Annual toggle selected, still sells 2,500 generation credits on Pro and 10,000 on Premier. The download column is 20 and 60. Treat those as two budgets.

Generation credits are not download credits

Suno bills two things that look like "how much music you get." They are not the same clock.

On 19 September 2026, suno.com/pricing listed:

Pro and Premier both let you buy extra credits and extra downloads. Free cannot. The same page, under "Need More?", says subscription credits do not carry over from day to day or month to month. Purchased top-up credits do not expire, but they need an active subscription to use. That sentence is about generation credits. Downloads have their own no-rollover rule in help.

How do downloads work? (re-fetched 19 September 2026): Pro gets 20 download credits per month, Premier gets 60, and workflows in Suno Studio are not subject to download limits. The longer Upcoming Changes FAQ (same fetch) adds the rest: monthly downloads reset on your billing date, streaming and sharing stay unlimited, and the stated reason is mass-export by bad actors, not "we ran out of songs."

If you only watch the credit number, Pro looks like a factory. 2,500 credits is a lot of presses. 20 files you can actually put on a Reel, in a client folder, or in a DAW is a small, named list. Generate freely. Export on purpose.

The v6 family Suno introduced on 9 September 2026 is the model roster, not the download policy. Flagship v6, v6-wild, and v6-mini changed what you generate with. They did not replace the download meter.

Udio is a different failure: downloads paused pending a co-licensed platform, covered in Udio paused downloads. Suno still hands you a file. It meters how many unique songs you may take this billing cycle.

What one download counts as

Suno's FAQ is specific. Use their definitions.

One song equals one download, regardless of format. MP3 and WAV of the same song still count once. Downloading it again next week still counts once. Failed or interrupted downloads do not count.

Stems ride with the song. A mix plus stems counts once, not per file. If you need stems every day as the job, that is a Studio question, not a "buy more Pro months" question.

The cap applies to the old library. Limits apply to all music on Suno starting 3 September 2026, including songs created before that date. The library does not vanish. Every song stays playable and shareable in-app, on every plan including Free. What changed is taking the file off the platform. Backing up last year's experiments in the same month you need new masters will eat the new masters.

Unused slots die at the billing date. Pro and Premier download counts reset each month. Unused downloads do not carry over. There is no "I generated light in August, so September owes me 40."

Free trial downloads are not a commercial stash. The Upcoming Changes FAQ still describes Free as up to 7 total lifetime trial downloads for personal, non-commercial use. How do downloads work? splits the join date: accounts that joined before 3 September 2026 have up to 7 trial downloads, with the option to purchase more. Accounts that join on or after that date may occasionally receive trial downloads, and can also purchase downloads. Both articles agree: trial downloads are not eligible for commercial use. The Free card on the pricing page is blunter: no monthly song downloads, no commercial rights.

Paid commercial rights attach to the download, as a subscriber. Suno's FAQ: for any song you download from the platform as a paying subscriber, you have commercial rights to that music for commercial or personal use. Generating a track and leaving it in the library is not that event. A commercial license to use the track is also not copyright ownership of the output. Cancel follows Free rules. The library stays. You can listen and share on the Free tier. Downloads follow Free limits. An annual plan you bought when downloads were uncapped does not keep an uncapped export after you drop to Free.

You can buy more downloads once you hit the included cap. The public pricing page does not print a per-download add-on price. Do not invent one. Recheck the account UI when you actually need overflow.

A practical month on Pro: generate widely on the 2,500 credits, pick the 20 songs (or fewer) you will actually deliver, download each once, and grab stems in the same motion if you need them. Twenty is a shipping budget. It is not a generate budget.

Suno Studio skips the download cap

Fold this here. It does not need a second post.

Suno Studio is Premier's production suite. The 19 September 2026 pricing card puts it on Premier: MIDI, effects, automation, and design-your-own-plugins, plus the 10,000 credits and the 60 regular song downloads. Pro's card does not include Studio.

Help is explicit about exports from that suite:

• How do downloads work?: Premier subscribers get 60 download credits per month. Workflows in Suno Studio will not be subject to download limits.
• Upcoming Changes FAQ: for Premier users on Studio, you can continue downloading without disrupting that workflow. A later answer repeats it: users can still download their work from Studio without limitation. Suno frames Studio as the professional path for generating and manipulating stems and samples.

Read that as a surface exception, not a Pro loophole. If your actual job is a DAW (arrange stems, print a mix, take files out as part of making the record), Premier plus Studio is the plan Suno wrote for that job. The 60-download column still exists for ordinary Library and Workspace downloads. Studio is the bypass for Studio work.

What Studio is not: a way for Pro to ignore the 20-file cap, a reason to download every sketch "from Studio" when you are not in a stem-and-sample session, or a substitute for captions, crop, or publishing. Studio is Suno's professional music surface. It is not the rest of a short-form pipeline.

If you live in Library, click the triple-dot, and hover Download, you are on the metered path. If you live in Studio as a Premier subscriber, Suno says that path is uncapped. Pick the surface that matches the job before you assume either number.

Model retirement is a third clock, and it is not this cap. Retiring a previous model means you cannot generate new songs with it. Existing songs stay in the library. Extensions, remixes, and covers of old songs run on the new models, so they may sound different. The original file is not rewritten. None of that adds download credits.

Do not spend Pro exports on mute beds

The failure mode for a short-form team is simple. You generate forty beds. You download twenty because that is the month. You drop them under Reels. You mute the audio and burn captions because the platform is silent-autoplay. You just spent the entire Pro export budget on files nobody hears.

Generate credits are not files you can burn onto a Reel. On Suno's own site, the generate meter can stay green while the download meter is empty. On a Reel, the file you needed might have been a 3-credit bed in a studio that already captions, not a Suno Pro export.

Versely's signed-in Music studio is that other meter. Suno V6 live on Versely documented the in-product Choose a model list: Suno V6, V6 Mini, and V6 Wild at 3 credits a generation, two takes, while the 40% launch discount runs (5 before the cut). Mini is the faster lane, not a free one. Public marketing catalog pages may still lag on older Sounds V5.5 cards. Generation lives in the signed-in studio. A separate catalog fact, so the two prices do not get mixed: models.json has Sounds V6 / Mini / Wild rows at 2 credits flat per call. Those slugs are not in the published marketing catalog. Do not hunt a /models/suno-sounds-v6 URL. Do not quote 2 credits as the signed-in song price. Song-shaped work in the app is the 3-credit V6 family above. Open it from the AI music generator.

When the track is a bed under picture, finish the mute-readable part in the same workspace. Burn with the AI caption generator. Preview the word-timed families on caption styles. The bed can be Mini. The caption is the line people actually read.

A clean split for a week of Reels:

• Hero song the audience should hear: generate until you have the take, then spend a Suno download if Suno is the vendor, or keep the Versely take if that is where you made it. One file, one reason.
• Beds you will duck or mute under talk and type: do not spend Pro's 20 on those. Sketch on Versely at 3 credits (two takes) or on Suno without downloading. Export only if the bed survives into the cut as audible music.
• Client temp you might throw away: generate, listen in-app, decide. Download after the client says yes.
• Stem session, print a mix, live in a DAW: Premier plus Studio, where Suno says the download cap does not apply.

If the job is twenty audible songs off Suno this month, Pro's 20 is exactly that, and Premier's 60 is the louder version, unless Studio is the actual workflow. If the job is forty mute beds and twelve captioned Reels, a Suno Pro download budget is the wrong object. FAQ

Do unused Suno downloads roll over?

No. Suno's Upcoming Changes FAQ says Pro and Premier download counts reset each month and unused downloads do not carry over. They reset on your billing date. Subscription generation credits also do not roll, per the 19 September 2026 pricing page. Those are still two meters. Buying extra downloads is allowed once you hit the included cap. Recheck the live account UI for add-on prices. Suno does not print a public per-download sticker on the pricing page we fetched.

Do stems count as extra downloads?

No. All stems from a song are part of that song's single download. Downloading the mix plus the stems counts once, not per file. Re-downloading the same song in another format also does not count again. Failed or interrupted downloads do not count. A different song does count, including an old library track you never exported before. Studio workflows are the documented exception, on Premier.

Are free trial downloads commercial?

No. Trial downloads are not eligible for commercial use. Free accounts that joined before 3 September 2026 have up to 7 lifetime trial downloads. Accounts that join on or after that date may occasionally receive trial downloads. Both can purchase downloads, per Suno help. The Free plan card still says no monthly song downloads and no commercial rights. Paid commercial rights, in Suno's FAQ, attach to songs you download as a paying subscriber. Generating on Free and hoping the file is "cleared" later is not that event.
