Rate and duration together decide how many frames the model actually has to produce. Ten seconds at 60fps is six hundred frames against two hundred and forty at 24fps, and every one of them has to agree with its neighbours. That is why higher frame rates cost more time and are not offered everywhere.
The choice reads on screen. 24fps carries the slight strobe audiences associate with cinema; 60fps looks immediate and hyper-real, which flatters sport and gameplay and makes drama look like a home video. Neither is a quality setting — they are different textures of motion.
Some models generate at a fixed internal rate and interpolate to whatever you asked for. That is not the same as generating those frames, and it is worth knowing which one you are getting when smoothness is the point.
In practice
- 24 or 30 is the safe default for social; 60 is worth it only when the motion is fast.
- Mixing rates in one edit causes judder at the joins — pick one for the whole piece.
- Slow motion needs a high capture rate, not a high playback rate.

The mistake to avoid
Assuming a higher number is a higher quality. At a fixed budget, more frames per second usually means fewer pixels or less time per frame.
