Resolution is a setting you pick before the job runs, from whatever heights or 1K/2K/4K tokens that row publishes. Native means the model sampled the scene at that count. An upscaler takes a smaller generate and invents the missing pixels afterwards. Both files can be named 1080p or 4K at export. They are not the same picture. Fine type, product edges, and contact frames are where the difference shows.
4K native is the 3840×2160 case of this term. Other rows list 720p, 1080p, or a quality name that does not map to a pixel count. Read the row. Social ingest re-encodes toward phone-sized delivery, so extra pixels are often discarded for the viewer and still worth keeping on a master you will crop or pull stills from.
Cost tracks the listed size on rows that bill by resolution or by pixel count. Draft at the model's comfortable size, finish at the target, upscale only when the composition is locked. A native 4K pass of a shot you will throw away is an expensive prompt test. Native audio and temporal consistency are independent of this setting.
In practice
- Read the row's listed size. Do not infer native 4K from a filename or an upscale export.
- Draft smaller. Pay for the listed target only on the take you are keeping.
- Check text and logos at 100%. Upscaling will not recover a label that was never sampled.

The mistake to avoid
Buying a 4K export to sharpen a 720p face. If the row generated small, 4K is a larger soft face.
Where you will run into it
- Upscale a Video to 4K — Sharper footage, no reshoot required.
- Upscale an Image's Resolution — Make it bigger without making it blurrier.
Related terms
Resolution
Resolution is how many pixels an output contains, usually named by its height — 720p, 1080p, 4K — and set before generation rather than after.
Upscaling
Upscaling raises the resolution of media you already have, inventing plausible detail rather than recovering detail that was never recorded.
4K native
4K native means the model generated at 3840×2160 (or a 4K tier), not that a 720p or 1080p clip was upscaled afterwards.
Seed
Seed meaning: the number that sets the random starting noise so the same seed and settings can reproduce the same output.
Prompt
Prompt meaning: the written instruction a generative model reads to decide what to make. The one input almost every model needs.
