UGC is the word. A UGC ad is the format. The brief is the job ticket: which SKU, which claims you may say, which you must not, how many hooks, how many bodies, where the product is in the hand, what the last line asks for. Hook–body–CTA is the usual three-beat shape. 'Make it feel real' is not a shot list. A creator cannot price a vibe, and a model cannot prompt from one.
Usage rights sit on the same ticket. Organic vs paid, whitelist code or not, usage window, exclusivity, whether a twin or a voice clone is in scope, whether the brand may recut. Silence favours the creator on reuse and favours nobody on the shoot day — you get a file you cannot run as an ad. For generated UGC-style work, the brief still names the stills, the pack-shot contract, the disclosure line, and the platforms the file must survive.
The deliverable is files that match the beats, not a feeling in the comments. Specify ratio, length band, burned-in caption yes or no, and whether the open is a pack. Then pay for the licence you intend to use. A cheap brief that forgets paid usage is how a winning cut sits on disk until the window you never bought has notionally passed.
In practice
- Write shots, claims, and a CTA as lines. Do not write 'authentic, handheld, UGC vibe.'
- Put paid usage, the window, and any whitelist on the brief before the shoot or the generate.
- One SKU, one claim set. A brief that lists five colourways without five pack stills is not ready.
The mistake to avoid
Sending a moodboard and a usage-rights PDF in two emails and calling it a brief. The shot list and the licence have to be one ticket.
