5 caption apps agencies put in a kit
Premiere, VEED, Versely, CapCut, and Descript hold agency caption kits. Pick by NLE, brand kits, families, phone editor, or Brand Studio.
An agency caption kit is a decision you make once: face, color, timed versus static, placement, a forbidden list. Five apps will hold that decision. Adobe Premiere is the NLE with speech-to-text and titles the suite already owns. VEED stores multiple brand kits on Pro. Versely is 45 presets in 9 families you can lock. CapCut is the phone-and-desktop editor with a brand library on Pro. Descript is Brand Studio on Business. This page is that list. It is not a Versely landing page. It is not a workflow-gates essay.
A kit is not a vibe. "Make it premium" recreates CapCut yellow under a new name. Write hex, family, position, and "never ship phone-editor bounce on client work." Then pick the app that will actually store those rules.
What a caption kit actually holds
Five objects, not a mood board.
The family. Timed karaoke for hooks. Static subtitle for talking heads. One of each, not twelve. On Versely that is Snap or Reveal versus Classic or Paper. On VEED that is a named subtitle preset plus a dynamic preset. Mixing both in one file is a fight most apps lose. VEED's own help says you cannot use two subtitle styles in one project without an export-and-reimport workaround.
The face and color. Weight that survives compression. Contrast that survives the plate. Brand yellow on a blonde talking head is a failed mute read. Contrast beats the PDF.
Placement. Bottom with margin, or top for a title row. Safe area is chrome: username, buttons, progress, shopping stickers. A kit that ignores chrome is a kit that gets covered.
The glossary. Product names, prices, "do not translate" strings. Descript Business has a transcription glossary and a do-not-translate list. Everyone else needs a doc the editor will actually open.
The forbidden list. No default yellow bounce on paid UGC. No Headline family on a transcript. No Finger Snap template confused with Snap captions. Write it down.
Agencies that skip the kit get a new personality per freelancer. Buyers notice when three "different" creators share one caption motion. That is a confound in testing, not a brand.
The five apps
1. Adobe Premiere. Start here if the deliverable already lives in a Creative Cloud timeline. Speech-to-text captions, Essential Graphics, a house .mogrt. Adobe's Premiere page (read 20 September 2026) lists the single-app plan at $22.99 a month on annual billed monthly, and Creative Cloud Pro at $69.99 a month ($34.99 for the first three months for new subscribers). Captions in Premiere are a broadcast-shaped object: a track you can export as sidecar or burn. That is the agency NLE. It is a bad first app if the kit only needed to dress Reels. Stay when Frame.io review, color, and captions share one project. Leave when the kit is a 9:16 family and nobody on the account opens Premiere for the social cut.
2. VEED. Open VEED when the kit has to live in a browser the client can also open. PulseSignal's read of veed.io/pricing (13 September 2026) puts Creator at $12 per user per month billed annually ($147 a year) with a simple brand kit (fonts, colors, subtitles) and unlimited auto subtitles. Pro at $22 ($265 a year) adds multiple brand kits, translation to 50+ languages, and the rest of the AI bundle. Studio at $39 ($465 a year) adds custom templates. Official help (auto subtitles, 20 September 2026) is the caption path: language, Auto-subtitle, styles, burn toggle. Detect Speakers is Pro or higher. Subtitle file download is Pro and Enterprise. VEED is the kit if the agency's social team will not open Premiere. One kit per client on Pro. Creator's single kit is enough for a one-brand shop and a trap for a five-brand roster.
3. Versely. Versely sits here because a kit is often a family, not an NLE project. Caption styles is 45 CSS presets, 9 groups × 5 variants. Lock one static (Classic, Paper, Ink) and one timed (Snap caption group or Reveal). Variants (gold, cyan, lime, mono) are accents, not new personalities. The AI caption generator burns the family onto the locked cut. BASIC looks bill at 1×. DYNAMIC looks bill at 2×. Preview on this client's plate, not a grey thumbnail. Credits are not dollars. Do not quote a USD caption price. Versely will not replace Premiere for a :30 with a grade. It will not replace Descript Brand Studio if the team edits by transcript. It is the app when the kit is "Snap Gold, bottom, never Classic Yellow on this account" and you want that rule next to generate on the same bill.
4. CapCut. Open CapCut when the talent already edits on a phone and the kit has to survive that reality. Official help (2 April 2026) puts brand libraries, team templates, and review workflows on Pro, with auto captions in the same Pro AI set. Independent 2026 reads (SocialRails, 18 July 2026) put Pro at $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year. CapCut does not publish a public dollar table (pricing URL 404 on 20 September 2026). The kit risk is the default. If you do not save a house style, every editor opens yellow bounce. Save the style. Put it in the brand library. Ban the default in the SOW. CapCut is the kit for UGC creators you cannot move into Premiere. It is not the kit if you needed sidecar files and a legal transcript round.
5. Descript. Open Descript when the kit is a layout pack plus a glossary, and the edit is the transcript. Descript pricing (20 September 2026, yearly) lists Hobbyist $16, Creator $24, Business $50 per person per month. Custom font upload starts at Creator. Brand Studio (default layout pack for the team, transcription glossary, do-not-translate list) is Business. Dynamic captions are unlimited on every tier. Business is the agency seat. Hobbyist will caption. It will not enforce a company-wide layout. Creator remixes layout packs. Business sets the default so a freelancer cannot invent Tuesday. If the account is talking-head thought leadership, Descript is the kit. If the account is 15-second product Reels, it is a large seat.
How agencies lock one look
Pick two looks, not a catalogue. Send the client two previews on the real clip. Pin the winner. A mosaic of ten finished videos is how they pick two and ask for a mix.
Store the kit in the app that will render, not in a Figma nobody exports. Premiere: a .mogrt and a caption style. VEED: a named brand kit on Pro. Versely: the family URL plus the variant. CapCut: a saved style in the brand library. Descript: Brand Studio default layout.
Review words as text before pixels. A wrong product name is cheap in a transcript and expensive after burn. One included recaption after transcript approval is a sane SOW line. Open-ended pixel notes are not.
Batch 1× versus 2× on purpose if the app meters that way. On Versely, Glass on a whole retainer is a 2× accident. Pin BASIC for talking heads. DYNAMIC for the hero hook.
Two apps is an agency stack. Premiere plus Versely covers film plus Reels. VEED plus CapCut covers browser plus UGC phones. Five apps is a kit you will not maintain.
What still fails after the kit
Contrast on the real plate. The kit hex can still vanish on a sunlit kitchen. Eyedropper the export, not the style picker.
Freelancers who "just opened CapCut." The forbidden list only works if the producer enforces it. Put the saved style link in the job ticket. "Make it pop" is not a spec.
Mid-flight restyles. Changing family during a paid test confounds the learning. Freeze the kit for the flight. Seasonal accents are a variant, not a new family.
When the kit is a Versely family, sign up and lock Snap or Classic. When the kit is an NLE graphic, stay in Premiere. The list is five apps. The client is one look.
FAQ
Should the client pick the caption preset?
They can approve one look from two previews on the real clip. Do not send a catalogue. Pin the winner for the campaign so the next twelve files match.
Can we edit in CapCut and burn a Versely family?
Yes. Finish picture where the talent lives. Run the locked cut through Versely's caption path. The kit is the burned look, not which app cut the A-roll.
Is Premiere enough if we only post Reels?
Often not. Premiere will caption. The seat is $22.99 a month (Adobe, 20 September 2026) for a lot of app you may not open. VEED, CapCut, or Versely is the smaller kit for a Reels-only roster.
