6 apps instead of a Reels copywriter

Claude, ChatGPT, Jasper, Captions.ai, Versely, and Submagic cover Reels copy: hooks, scripts, on-screen type. Pick by words, not a seat.

A Reels copywriter is a person who writes the first three seconds, the on-screen line, and the last ask. A shop that posts every week often has a clip, a price, and a mute viewer. Six apps cover that week without putting a writer on the invoice. Claude is the careful draft. ChatGPT is the default draft. Jasper is the brand-voice seat. Captions.ai is the script-plus-caption app if you already shoot talking heads. Versely is the on-screen type: caption styles, not a writer. Submagic is the karaoke burn-in with hook titles. This page is that list. It is not "best AI copywriter 2026." It is not a pitch to fire a human who already writes hooks well.

Hire the copywriter when the job is a 90-day series bible, claims legal has to sign, or a voice you will still want in a year. Use the six apps when the job is Tuesday's 12 words.

    What Reels copy actually is

Most weeks are not a manifesto. They are:

    • A hook that works with the sound off
    • On-screen type that matches the spoken line, or replaces it
    • A caption field that is not the same as the on-screen line
    • A CTA that can change next week
    • A script if someone is talking

A copywriter solves the first one in a doc and bills the rest as versions. The apps split the rest. The mistake is buying Jasper Pro at $69 because you needed eight words, or buying Captions.ai Max because you needed karaoke.

Words in, type out. If nobody made a clip, you do not have a copy problem. You have a production problem.

    The six apps

    1. Claude. This is the default if the draft has to stay close to a brief and not invent a sale. Claude's pricing page (read 20 September 2026) lists Free at $0, Pro at $17 a month with annual ($200 billed up front) or $20 billed monthly, Max from $100 a month (5x or 20x Pro usage). Team Standard is $20 a seat a month billed annually ($25 monthly). Paste the product name, the price, the one true claim, and "write three mute hooks under 12 words." Stay here when the intern would have oversold. Leave when you needed a brand-voice library with 40 assets. That is Jasper. Claude is a chat. It is not a caption renderer.

    2. ChatGPT. Open ChatGPT when the shop already lives there and the job is volume, not a new seat. Independent September 2026 recaps of OpenAI's consumer ladder (Technology.org, 19 September 2026; PricePerToken, 19 September 2026; AI Pricing Guru, 20 September 2026) still put Plus at $20 a month, Go at $8, Pro at $100 and $200. Recheck OpenAI's ChatGPT pricing the day you buy. Plus is the daily draft. Go is the cheaper chat. Pro is a usage multiplier, not better hooks. You stay because the login exists. You leave when the copy has to match a locked brand voice Jasper already stores, or when the output has to be burned onto the file. ChatGPT does not typeset your Reel.

    3. Jasper. Open Jasper when the intern's real job was "make it sound like us," not "make it shorter." Jasper's pricing page (read 20 September 2026) lists Pro at $69 a month per seat, or $59 a month per seat billed yearly, one seat, 2 Brand Voices, 5 Knowledge assets, 3 Audiences. Business is custom. The FAQ on that page is the same $59 yearly / $69 monthly Pro line. Jasper is a marketing seat with agents and a canvas. It is a bad first app if Claude Pro at $20 already wrote the three hooks. You are buying Brand Voice, not a cheaper ChatGPT.

    4. Captions.ai. Open Captions when someone spoke, and the copy is both a script and a burn-in. Captions' pricing and help (fetched 19 September 2026) still mark Max at $24.99 a month for 500 credits. Basic (formerly Pro) is $9.99 with 200 credits: caption, dub, script. Max is Mirage actors, twins, prompt-to-video, 16 credits every 6 seconds on that generate table. Karaoke is not Max. If the file already exists and someone spoke, you need burned-in captions, not a twin. Stay on Basic if the job is script plus captions on a real take. Leave Max if you opened it because the company is named Captions.

    5. Versely. Versely sits here because a lot of "copy" on Reels is type on the file, not a paragraph in a doc. That finish step is caption styles: 45 CSS presets, 9 groups, 5 variants. Classic, Paper, Ink, Halo, Hype, Signature, and Headline are subtitle families. Only Snap and Reveal are word-timed karaoke. The AI caption generator burns one authored line. Overlay the hook so you can change it. Do not generate the CTA into the pixels before you animate. If the week also needs a clip from a still, that is a template or image-to-video, not a copy seat. Versely is not Claude. It will not write the series bible. It is not Jasper. It will not store Brand Voice. It is the app when the writer would have been hired to put eight words on a mute clip.

    6. Submagic. Open Submagic when the copy is karaoke plus a hook title, on footage you already have. Submagic's pricing page (read 20 September 2026) lists Starter at $19 a month ($12 yearly) for 45 credits, 15 videos, 2-minute cap. Pro is $39 a month ($23 yearly) for 120 credits, 40 videos, 5-minute cap, AI hook titles, clean audio, silence removal. Business is $69 a month ($41 yearly) for 300 credits, 100 videos, 30-minute cap, 4K/60fps. Annual saves up to 41 percent. Help (16 June 2026) matches those monthly stickers. Submagic is a caption-and-hook factory. It is not a writer of original claims. You stay for the burn-in. You leave when the words still need a human to check the price.

How to pick for a Tuesday

Write the week in one sentence before you open an app.

    • "The claim has to stay true": Claude, with the price pasted in.
    • "We already pay Plus": ChatGPT, same paste.
    • "It has to sound like the last 40 posts": Jasper Pro, only if Brand Voice is the product.
    • "They talked, and we need a script plus captions": Captions.ai Basic, not Max.
    • "The clip is mute and the hook is eight words": Versely caption styles.
    • "The footage is done and we want karaoke plus a title": Submagic Starter.

Two apps is a shop. Claude plus Versely covers a lot of mute Reels. ChatGPT plus Submagic covers a talking-head week. Jasper plus Captions.ai is two seats for one paragraph. Six apps is a stack you will not open.

A copywriter on a 12-week series is still cheaper than six writing seats if the voice has to stay locked. The six apps win when the cadence is weekly and the file is 12 words.

    What still needs a human

A claim about results, money, health, or a guarantee. A joke that can land on the wrong person. A series that has to sound like one writer. Those are hire days. Do not let a chat invent a discount you do not run.

Mute still matters. The on-screen line is the copy most people get. Write that first. The caption field is extra. The spoken script is extra if anyone is talking. Overlay the price. Do not bake it in.

When the clip is mute and the hook is a line you already wrote, sign up and burn it on caption styles. When the clip still needs words in a doc, stay in Claude or ChatGPT. The list is six apps. The week is twelve words.

    FAQ

Can these six replace a Reels copywriter for ads?

For a weekly organic hook, often. For a paid claim, a landing page that has to match the Reel, or a 90-day voice, no. The apps remove the Tuesday scramble. They do not remove a line you actually wanted written.

Do I need Jasper if Claude already drafted the hook?

No. Jasper is Brand Voice and a marketing canvas. Claude is a chat with a brief. Using both is how you pay $59 a month to sit next to a $20 chat.

Why is Versely next to Claude and Submagic?

Because on-screen type is a different job from "draft the hook" and "karaoke the take." Caption styles are not a writer. They are burn-in. If your week is a Google Doc, you do not need Versely. If your week is eight words on a mute file, you might.
