Can Firefly generate music like Suno?
No. Firefly Generate Music is a licensed bed, not a Suno song with verses and a chorus. Use Firefly for a safe bed. Use Suno when the song is the product.
No. Firefly cannot generate music "like Suno." Firefly's Generate Music is a commercially wrapped bed that can be sized to a video. Suno is a song model — verses, hooks, a record-shaped take. If the search was "can firefly generate music or sound like suno," the answer is already over. Use Firefly when the brief is a safe bed. Use Suno when the brief is a song.
Search Console still shows "can firefly generate music" (11 impressions, seven days to 4 September 2026). The sibling page, Firefly audio is a licence, not a mix, is Adobe's wrapping story after the German Suno ruling. This page is the search question: same button family, different object.
Two products, two objects
Adobe made Generate Music, Generate Speech, and Generate Sound Effects generally available on 20 August 2026 (Adobe's announcement). The Next Web's write-up is blunt: universally licensed original tracks that can travel with the picture. That is a licence claim. It is not a mix claim, and it is not a songwriting claim.
What shipped, as audio objects:
- Generate Music — Firefly Music Model. Tracks sized to a video's length and mood. A bed. Wallpaper that legal can file as Firefly-trained.
- Generate Speech — Firefly Speech Model, with ElevenLabs offered as an option beside it. A VO. Not a clone of your founder unless that is the vendor you actually picked in the panel.
- Generate Sound Effects — Firefly Audio Model, timed to a clip. Production support, not a sound-design pass.
Suno v6 is the current flagship song model (introduced 9 September 2026, per Suno's own announcement; it follows v5.5 of 26 March 2026, and Suno says it will retire its earlier models). The job is a piece of music with structure: intro, verse, chorus, lyrics if you asked for them, a take you might release as audio. Warner settled with Suno (Music Business Worldwide) and with Udio (both November 2025; MBW); Universal settled with Udio in October 2025 (MBW). Universal and Sony are still suing Suno (Digital Music News, 18 September 2026). Suno has announced audio watermarking and fingerprinting and says it screens uploaded audio and lyrics (Suno, 9 September 2026; Digital Music News, 6 August 2026). That is a different industry argument than Adobe's "universally licensed" sentence. It is also a different file. A Suno take is trying to be a track. A Firefly Generate Music take is trying to be a safe bed under a tutorial.
"Like Suno" usually means: I want a song I can hum, with words, that feels like a release. Firefly is not promising that. It is promising you will not argue with brand legal about the bed. If you need the hummable thing, you are on a song model — Suno, Udio, or another music row — and you still have a licensing conversation. If you need the bed, Firefly's pitch is the point.
Do not judge Firefly against a Suno chorus. Do not judge Suno against a Firefly legal memo. That is the whole comparison.
Why Adobe is not trying to be Suno
On 31 July 2026 the Munich Regional Court found that Suno infringed GEMA-administered works (court press release, case 42 O 763/25). The injunction is narrow (six named compositions) and the judgment is not final. The practical read for anyone shipping a client bed is not "Suno is illegal." It is "unlicensed-training music now has a first-instance judgment attached." Adobe launched the last major Firefly format into that weather, with the training-data story it has used since Firefly's image launch: licensed and public-domain material, therefore a track it is willing to call safe to sell.
That timing is the product. It is not evidence that the cue will hit your cut. It is not evidence that the vocal (if any) will be a performance. It is evidence that a producer who has spent two years arguing about beds with brand legal now has a sentence to file.
Partner audio in the same Firefly window does not inherit that sentence automatically. ElevenLabs as a speech option is a different vendor's terms sitting next to Firefly Speech because Adobe would rather own the window. If the brief named Firefly's licence, do not deliver the ElevenLabs take as the Firefly take. If the brief named a cloned founder voice, Firefly Speech was never the row.
The same split as picture: Firefly's commercially-safe claim does not cover Veo. Laying a Firefly bed under a Veo talking shot does not make the picture Firefly-safe. Picture terms and music terms are two lines on the manifest.
Suno's own 2026 posture — announced watermarking and fingerprinting, Musixmatch's Sentinel screening, download limits, label litigation still live — is the opposite kind of paper. You may still use Suno. You should not pretend Firefly's wrapping applies to the Suno wav, or that Suno's song craft applies to the Firefly bed.
Routing: bed, song, speech, SFX
Bed under a social cut, an ad, a product tutorial. Firefly Music is a rational default if you already live in Adobe and legal asked for a training-data story. You are buying the paper. Temp in Firefly even if you later replace it. On Versely, a music row is a music row, billed in credits, which is a different bill from an Adobe seat.
Song as the content. Lyric video, artist release, a chorus the comment section will quote. Suno v6 or equivalent song model. Write the brief as a track, not as "background upbeat." You will still caption the video; the AI caption generator does not become a music licence.
Speech. Firefly Speech or a TTS row. Inworld TTS 2 is a voice file at 2 credits per 1,000 characters, with style steering, 100+ languages, research preview — still not a song, still not a talking generate. If we see a mouth, lipsync after.
SFX. Firefly's timed effects, or a dedicated SFX generate, or a library. Not a Suno instrumental with the vocals prompted out.
Mix. None of the above. A film cue that has to hit a cut still wants stems, a mixer, and a licence that names the actual cue. "Universally licensed" is not "print master." Generate a legally quiet scratch in Firefly if you need one. Finish like a film.
If the search was really "I do not want to get sued," Firefly's August 2026 GA is the sentence you were looking for, with the GEMA context attached. If the search was "I want Suno quality in Photoshop," you will be disappointed on purpose. Adobe did not ship that.
The test
Play the output on its own, with the picture off.
If it sounds like a bed you would never release as a single, and legal wanted that, Firefly did the job.
If you are waiting for the chorus and there isn't one, you asked Firefly to be Suno.
If there is a chorus and the brief was a 15-second Reel bed, you asked Suno to be Firefly, and you may now have a lyric you cannot clear as wallpaper.
Keep the objects apart on disk. That is ordinary AI asset versioning: bed_firefly_15s.wav versus song_suno_v03.wav. Do not drop either on a closed mouth and call it a presenter.
The video still needs a picture row — Veo 3.1, I2V, whatever the plate is — and captions if the feed is mute. Audio is the last thing added and the first thing an audience notices, which is Adobe's line, and it is still true when the audio came from Suno instead.
Use Firefly for the bed when the paper matters. Use a song model when the song is the product. Do not search for a hybrid that Adobe did not ship on 20 August 2026.
Generate the picture and the captions in the studio once you know whether the audio is a bed or a song.
FAQ
Can Firefly generate music?
Yes. Generate Music went GA on 20 August 2026. It generates commercially wrapped beds sized to a video. That is not the same as generating a Suno-like song with verses and a hook.
Can Firefly replace Suno for a release?
No. Suno v6 is a song model. Firefly Music is a licence-shaped bed. A release still needs a track, a mix, and a licence that matches how you will distribute it.
Does using Firefly under a Veo clip make the whole video Firefly-safe?
No. The bed can carry Firefly's music wrapping. The picture carries whatever terms the video model and host use. Write both on the manifest.
